California restrictive bill

    California restrictive bill

Those of you in CA.  I implore you to write your local assemblyman, not sign an internet petition (no value in signatures that can not be immediately verified).  The current proposed bill ([linkhttp://saveourdogs.net/ab1634.html]http://saveourdogs.net/ab1634.html[/link]) is a nightmare.  I dont know if this is the best link but it does appear to be detailed.

The vote has been postponed until April 24, 2007.  There is time.  If current rules were enforced the problem would be addressed.  It is all about complete local control.  Manditory procedures impact those who develop working dogs (herding, livestock guardians, k-9s) as well as the occassional breeder of "show" dogs.  The bill is lopsided in is application (who is to be neutered and who isnt).  One of the things reported on my breed mailing list was that the assembly was unaware that dog owners as well as dog breeders also opposed the bill.

The thing that makes me craziest, puppy millers (who keep clean kennels) would be legal.

I have no real impact being an OH resident.  However, I will be writing to let them know I will not deal with CA companies or travel to CA should this bill be passed.  Doubt that will make much impact unless many other like mined individuals do the same.  This fight was initially lost in Louiseville and is currently being challenged in court.  I sincerely hope that does not happen in CA. one often hears what starts in CA works its way East.

I just saw that Milan and wife are supporting this bill. Interesting...not a good thing for his standing with the show folks...which up to now has been pretty favorable on most of the lists I'm on.

The working Border Collie people are in an uproar over this. The ABCA isn't an approved registry and even if it were it gives out no titles. Even the USBCHA only gives out four "titles" per year - National Sheepdog Trial Champion, Nursery and Open, and National Cattledog Trial Champion, Nursery and Open.

The whole thing is a badly thought out fiasco. At least, I hope that what it is, and not an isidious plan on the part of the big kennel clubs and puppymillers to damage those who buck the system.

AKC is very much against the legislation...haven't checked UKC's site yet. Most of the big KC's in the state are on the opposed list I think.

No, the AKC is DEFINITELY not backing this.  Like it's been said before, we're all stuck as well because dogs must be fixed by 4 months and you can't show until 6 months.

But yes, it's a very poorly thought out fiasco.  I'll keep my fingers crossed it isn't passed.
