Ethical question for rescuers

• Ethical question for rescuers rwbeagles Posted : 3/11/2007 10:32:29 PM Perhaps you can help me. I am thinking of donating a portion of my puppy sales from basically here on out...to a rescue org. Now my question is this, would you all as rescuers...find this in bad taste? I mean obviously these folks "bought" a puppy...instead of rescuing a dog...and part of the proceeds of that would be what I'd be giving. I just am not sure if that is okay....or not?   It'd be written into the contract what the amount would be, and what group it was going to...and be donated in the puppy they purchase's "name". I'd also be interested in possibly putting this on my site, along with the link to the org itself, more so other Beaglers (who are always poking around each others sites) might view it and think "hey I can do that too"....plenty do help rescue, but not everyone can foster or donate money all year round. When placing puppies sounds like the ideal timeframe tho?   I would love some input pro or con....so I can really get a handle on the idea and make a judgement...thanks! I maybe not understanding your're trying to do: you will be donating money that people will give you for your pups, right? It's none of everybody else's business what you do with your money. • DPU Posted : 3/12/2007 9:13:17 PM In my opinion I think it should be done anonymously.  If you wish to advertise your good deed and spread the news to other Beaglers, then I think the intent should be to sway the puppy buyer to go and adopt a rescue.  You also need to make the purchaser aware that there is no tax benefit and most likely, no tax benefit to you unless you make a profit on the transaction...reality.  There are intangibles in play here that will get you Goodwill, and that has a value.  You need to seriously think of the advantages you are receiving in comparison to what you are giving up and then equalize with a higher donation.  As I write this I am concluding that it is in bad taste. 0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. • anne Posted : 3/13/2007 11:42:10 AM Nope, not at all. I have had this conversation with other rescuers in my area. We do not mind reputable breeders.   Not only do they breed for quality but they also search (As I have seen with Dalmatians) shelters to see if one of "their" dogs could be in the shelter. If they are (which I have seen it happen quite a few times now), the breeder takes the dog back and either finds it a home or the dog spends the rest of it's life with the breeder.   The national contact for dalmatian rescue is also a breeder herself. She only breeds once every 3 years, and spends most of her time rescuing dals.   So no I dont think it is in poor taste.
