Made me think that someone should do a story on one of the dogs I have in class right now.  One year old Pit - a positively lovely dog.  He was traded for some crack cocaine by his original owner when he was only four months old.  Someone "rescued" him from that situation and placed him with his current family.  He's one of the brightest dogs in the class, great with people and plays nicely in a group.  His mom wants to make him a therapy dog.  If they succeed, I'll write the article myself!

FINALLY!!!!! thank you soooo much for posting this link!!! finally i have somewhere to vent my fury at the "frothing pit bull" picture all the TV news stations display after an attack, even if that attack was BY ANOTHER BREED!!!

No offense intended, but if the compilation of that material changes some legislator's mind about BSL someday, it's worth the scrolling. [;)]  Find a nice company that is dumping their old monitors for flat screens - maybe you can cut a deal on a 17-19".  That's what I did.

Danke schoen (old german). (Donka shern). I'd spell it with the umlauts but I don't have those in the font I am using. O with an umlaut replaces the old dipthong, oe, pronounced as "er."

Danke Shane was the pronunciation used by Wayne Newton in his hit song by the same name.

I have a head full of trivia. More bites actually come from Labs and Siberian Huskies. Labs, because they are so prevalent and many people do not know how to inhibit bites. Sibes because they are mishandled. The actual number of bites from pit bulls is quite low but they get all the bad press. It's easier to pick on a dog than to prosecute gangsters.

    Hello old friends,

I am working on an arguement with our local humane society whom now does not want to take in un wanted Pit Bull's or mixes thereof, because of two bites unrelated to eachother, other than they were pitty pat mixes and were adopted from the humane society. In either case, it was negligent pet owners fault, not the dogs.
At one point they were thinking of only taking in puppies under the age of a year, now they are not wanting to take them at all because of the "liablity". My arguement is ANY dog can and will bite under circumstances. I have been bitten more by Chi's than any other dog. Never been bitten by a Pitty Pat (PB). The problem is if a Pit Bull does bite, they do more damage because of their jaw. Another arguement with them is the fact if they do not accept PB's we will see more of them running a muck on the streets, breeding, and more in the local pound where they do not have a fighting chance at ALL. Our local pound euthanizes all and any pitty mix, period.
The board asked me to come up with five simple questions to propose to the general public about how they feel if a PB lives next to them or in the neighborhood.
I have given them idea's, cgc, temperament testing etc and a protocol to follow prior to accepting a Pit Bull from John Q Public. Their responce to me is they fear if someone gets bitten, they will be sued. Again, misplaced fear in my eyes and not a good basis to stop intake of PB. I asked them what if a Golden bit someone after it had been adopted, well that went over like a lead balloon, because they are stuck on the Pit Bull damage controll.
Any ideas guys? I am so friggin frustrated at this point I could SCREAM...???

You might want to look into an organization that we have here in New Mexico. I think what they are doing is great and will help out with the Pit Bulls. They provide free training for pit bulls being adopted out. Maybe starting something similar where responsible pit owners volunteer to come down and work with the dogs in the shelter and assist in determining who is adoptable and who is not might help your shelter to continue to take them in.

Check out their site, I have even been thinking about doing some volunteer work with them even though I do not own a Pit Bull.
