Please help Stop Bad Animal Cruelty Legislation!

2nd hr of debate of S-213 will be by May 7th! From there it goes to committee for further review. So please get those letters of support in for Bill C-373! (Amendments to the Criminal Code-cruelty to animals) Please help us get effective animal cruelty legislation and ask for rejection of useless S-213 before it's too late! Thanks everyone!

Act now to stop useless animal cruelty laws from being passed! Help us follow up on this important issue by sending letters to the Justice Committee, your MP and the Justice Minister, asking them to Support Bill C-373 and reject Bill S-213! This is critically important, as S-213 has passed 2nd hr of debate and is now going to Justice Committee for further review! We need to stop this ineffective legislation from being passed as it will be impossible to convict abusers, doesn't mention service animals, strays or wildlife, and leaves current law virtually unchanged!

After a century of debate, let's get some laws in place that will work! If S-213 comes into affect, changes cannot be made to it later, unless it's an issue that falls under the criminal code! Contrary to popular rumour, necessary changes like adding in un-owned animals and protection of service animals will be virtually impossible later.

Passing Bill S-213 would essentially kill the addition of any other of the important points currently inc. in C-373! It would make the last century of debate a waste of time as leaves in place unpunishable laws. Why allow a weak law to pass that will cause another century of debate and expense of innocent lives and money, while intentional abusers continue to go unpunished, because of vague wording?

Just to remind everyone! Bill C-373 protects and allows for all regular industry, research and hunting practices to continue! And anything that's a lawful excuse now, still is under C-373.

The other boy pled guilty and got 3 months House Arrest and probation. Tamara will be there, we hope others are as well.[/color]S-213 will soon be reviewed for reccomendation by the Justice Committee! We need to let them know that this Bill is not acceptable, and after a century of debate, we want laws in place that will help deter and punish offenders before it spreads to humans! We need a Bill like C-373 in place that helps close gaping loopholes with effective wording, inc all animals, owned or not, instead of a few. And changes archaic wording that is inc in S-213, which does nothing to change the fact that as law is now, and will remain under useless S-213, 1/4 of 1% of charges actually lead to a punishment. Both Bills call for punishment to offenders, same fines, and both are changes to animal cruelty act under the criminal code. Neither apply to fishing, farming, industry or research industries.
