Pit Bull service denied entry into a Wal Mart

I just received this message in my email network.

A pit bull service dog was not allowed to go into wal-mart because it was a "dangerous" breed.
    Here#%92s the service dog#%92s website:

I think this has already been posted.... Somewhere.  I know because I replied to it.

Yes, now I see it was posted in yesterday in Anything and Everything section.  So this thread serves as a reminded that you can still voice your opinion to Wal-mart for their ignorant policy.

This is a better place for it though.

according to the "background information" the author gave, she "checked out" after she asked to see the manager.

maybe it's me, but if someone tells me my dog isn't welcome, i'm certainly not going to continue to spend my money there.  especially not in the next breath.

There's some other interesting information popping up.

The Orange County SPCA (which runs a pet therapy program) hasnever heard of OC Hugs, the group mentioned on Chloe's page. They have a website, which looks as if it's built by Chloe's person. OC Hugs isn't listed with the Delta Society as an SD training resource.

There's now tasks listed (added this morning) a 'future training' for Chloe but if she's a fully certified (not required by law, their terminology, not mine) service dog and not a service dog in training, why doesn't she have any already trained?

There's just something fishy about the whole thing.

Have tracked down more info on OC hugs, not sure if they are legitimate (which they may well be) and just don't realize how bad their website (brand new!) is... :P

It doesn't matter if they are legit or not if other criteria were met.   It is legal for an owner to train their own service dog, and they still are entitled to public access.  A proprietor can ask if the dog is a service dog, but cannot ask the nature of the person's disability.  Unfortunately, many managers are not aware, think that service dogs are only for the blind, etc.  To prevail in court, if she sues Walmart, a service dog's handler must show that the dog can perform replicatable tasks related to the person's disability.  It is also a crime to pass a pet off as a service animal.  But, there is no law that says a service animal must be identified with any special cape, leash or collar.

It's totally legal if it's legit. That's what I'm worried it's not. Frauds make it harder for ALL owner trainers (Malcolm is my SDIT, remember?)

I might be wrong, but where she is located, I think SDITs are protected by state laws?
