    Rodeo Reality

Haven't watched it and don't intend to. However from the title I can infer it is a piece on rough stock rodeo...and not dogs. As such it belongs in NDR or Advocacy...please advise where you'd prefer it be moved so I can move it.
    Thanks.

That is very sad, I was in tears[:(]I'm sure not all rodeos are like that but I'm sure that there are some that are that cruel. I never liked rodeos just because, but to know that some animals are treated like that is pretty horrible.

The rodeos I have been to aren't this rough. But it's no secret that they make a bull buck by cinching a strap on his genitalia. Somewhat with horses, too, though the spurs will also egg the horse on. I like bull poker because it gives the bull an even chance.

A properly trained roping horse will slow down to prevent a broken neck and the cowboy is better off tipping the calf rather than throwing him. Interestingly enough, there is no need to rope a calf. They are herded into chutes to receive shots, branding, etc. I think it's more human to ear-tag a cow than to brand it. Ear-tag is akin to an ear piercing. One quick ouch and that's it, as opposed to branding, which is permanent scarification.

Even so, I get perverse pleasure when I see a bull or horse beat the living daylights out of a cowboy. Serves him right. Same as when a bull fighter gets a horn up the keister. Poetic justice. And I have no respect for a "cowboy" who managed to tie up the legs of a dead cow.

Have you seen "Free style rodeo"?

That is the only rodeo I would be interested in seeing.

I saw it on tv, man against bull, man on foot, no horse, no weapons.......[:D]

Brands are still used on range where brush would rip that "humane" tag right out before the calf was three weeks old. Ditto roping, still very much a needed skill on the range, a hundred miles from the nearest chute, plus horses are still caught by roping. I did not see the video, but it's unfortunate when people who are supposed to be caretakers of animals become their worst enemies.

Bull riding is, I've always felt, just about the most gratuitous of idiot testosterone rushes. It's not like you actually will be riding the bull after you successfully stick on him. There's not even the lame excuse that it hones bronco-busting skills because the two are totally different. A really wily bronc was much harder to ride than a bull.

I think what you are refering to is actually free style bull fighting (rodeo clowns are now called bullfighters.  Nothing like what they do in Spain).  Anyway- it is rather exciting to watch.

If there is a locational need for animal protection rights, it would be amongst this category on this forum.  The plea for help is a certainty.  How cruel and ignorant the ones who carry out such horrendous behaviors toward such beautiful creatures.  The only solace to those who suffer, will be if someone gets into those places and puts the lawful rights of animals protection up front.  Or they perish before more harm comes to them.

Evil acts and ignorance go hand in hand.
