What is the process for shutting down a puppy mill?

I went on Saturday to pickup a puppy I had purchased from what I thought was an ok breeder. When I got there I found what I see as a puppy mill;. Constantly pregnant dogs of many different breeds kept in cages with no toys and barely any food or water. Starved for human attention and basic grooming, these animals in Buxton Maine are livingf a life of squaler. I found dogs desperately in need of rescue: two blind puppies and overly bred females a long with a toothless male. There were flies everywhere. The owners had beer cans and general rubbish everywhere. My puppy is so urine stained on his white fut I dont know how to get the stains out. He was inn  atiny cage with no food, water or toys when I saw him. The woman I got him from also demanded that I pay the last payment in cash, when i gave her a check. At that point I knew I was never going to get any $$$ back from her, as I had read the contract. And was only interested in getting as many dogs out of there as possible. I tried to take some of the poor overbred papillon females she was 'retiring" but she wouldnt let them gfo without a vet check tro ensure they werent pregnant. Ofcourse here was her breeding program: ;ets keep all the pups together and see who gets pregnant.

I recieved no officeial vet records and i think that if a real vet evervisited this place they would be appauled. This woman really thinks this is a proper way to raise animals.

DO NOT BUY FROM J'aime Kennels. IT IS A MILL!!!!

I have already called the local rescue leage and animal control, but i dont know how far calling them will go. Buxton is a small toen (i cant beleive they let these people take overflow dogs from the pound) so its fighting the small town chronisms as well.

All I can say is i have my puppy and he wont haveto face the awful future those dogs have. But still, I want to see this operation shut diown. Any ideas?

I'm sorry but I have to ask....

I remember the thread in which you asked about this "breeder" and we all told you to run, don't walk, in the other direction. Why did you go ahead with the sale anyway?

You must first understand that to me, in my own understandings and hearing testimony from people who actually went there, it seemed liek thios woman was only a little excentric.. not that she was running a puppy mill. I spoke with people who had gone there, and they gave no bad signs.

Also, there was no way I was going to get my money back. When I made that post, she already had my money abnd there was no way of getting it back. So basically, I was being financially scerewed. There is no traking her to court becuase the law follows contracts. And contractually there was no way I was gettting back my cash.

Also, I feel I have a litrtle more clout in my complaints haviong purchased from her. I feel as though this woman needs to have her license revoked because unlike most mills she is selling directly to the public over many misleading web sites.

I made the decision to purchase the dog out of the faxct that he was already purchased when i started my investigation.

Now I am seeking to get this woman shut down, after seeing how misleading and bad her operation truly is.

i did NOT think thats what she was becuase of my own research. I thought that she was just a woman who loved dogs and I feel that it is possible to care for a few breeds of dogs in a PROPER way, if thats all you do.

Also, she has quite a few more dogs then she lets on in her sites.

I'm not sure!  You made a few phone calls..make some more. The nearsest Humane Society. Talk to as many animal rescues,,,in the area you can.  Go to this link: [linkhttp://www.nopuppymills.com/index.php]http://www.nopuppymills.com/index.php[/link] its a forum for Puppy Mills....they will tell you more on who to contact I'll bet.   Write a letter to your newspapers....either letters to the editor or who ever will listen.   In our city of Cleveland, we have a few TV personalities who talk about animals all the time,,,if you have any,,,write to them.
Do what ever you can,. talk to as many people as you can.
    Good luck!
