Connecticut lawmakers to look at animal cruelty issue

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A committee of the Connecticut General Assembly is examining the possible links between animal cruelty and violent behavior.

The Select Committee on Children is holding an invitation forum at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

Speakers include representatives of the American Humane Association, Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Hartford Community Court and animal rights and domestic violence prevention advocates.

Rep. Diana Urban, a Democrat from North Stonington and the committee's co-chairwoman, is trying to show that animal abuse can be a warning sign for domestic abuse and criminal activity.
