Well, they moved the hearing to a larger area, the Gardner Auditorium. There were well over 100 people there, and of them, only one person testified in favor of BSL that would ban Pits. (An ACO from Boston) Dr. Dodman, from Tufts, was there at the request of the Joint Committee, and I think the Chair was a bit surprised when none of the "experts" supported BSL, including Dodman, and the MSPCA, MassFed, ADOA, private trainers, AKC judge, breeders, etc. People were mostly respectful and dignified, and the Committee let everyone have a chance to speak. A couple of dog owners came in after work because they heard it on the radio! They were your average JQP responsible Pit owners who showed up just to protect the family dog. Priceless.
I quietly asked a Boston ACO (not the same one that testified) to "find the Pit Bull" - man, you'd have thought I'd asked her to bare her breasts in Copley Square. [
] She refused. I later got to tell the Committee Chair why I have reservations about banning a breed that even an ACO does not want to try to identify. [
] I'm not sure where this will end, but we did our best. And, Rep. Hill was great - his testimony in support of the Bill was excellent.
