    Glenda? Ohhh GLENDA..................!

    http://www.duckeggs.com/duck-egg-questions.html#taste

I know alot of people that prefer duck eggs over chicken, so I had to go look that up for you, mind you could be sitting on a new venture, check out the price for 18 duck eggs, shipped in the US.

I am sad, my second phone call of the day was from the daughter of a patient, the patient, a sweet sweet SWEET lady passed away last night.  Sigh, I am going to miss her.

    ok, back to work!

Courtney, I really hope that your professors get back to you soon.

f MIL doesn't mind her coming along, then I think we are going to take a road trip to Vermont.

You should consider my idea, it would no doubt make the trip quieter, at least!

I am seriously considering your idea, Courtney.  I've determined that I'm in for a quieter drive if I drop the kids off first.  Anyone in Texas want two kids for Thanksgiving? Big Smile  The dogs grasp the concept of getting into the vehicle & going to sleep.  The boys haven't learned that yet.

I think that I will drop Bev off with Karen & Bugs.  Karen is used to living with a crazy boy, so I'm pretty confident that she can deal with Bev, his crazy energy, & all of his weird little habits that make him who he is.   I am afraid that leaving him with anyone who isn't used to dealing with his kind of crazy on a daily basis wouldn't survive.  If they survived "Hurricane Bevo", they would probably never be the same....Of course with Bugsy & Bevo together, Karen might never be the same again either.....

Anyone else have a request for a specific dog?  I have two lazy ones, one who takes guarding his family very seriously, one who we lovingly call a little #$%^&!#, and one more who is a great jogging/snuggling buddy.  With so few to choose from you had better act fast! Stick out tongue

I'd take Brutus, and send him over to play with BF's parents' dog, who I think looks just like him:

They have bears in their area and BF's mom likes to go for hikes, so Brutus' guard dog experience might come in handy! (Actually, the bears are quite accomodating, and bother only birdfeeders and garbage cans - never people.) Plus BF's parents' dog really, really wants a playmate his size. Rascal doesn't go for the flying-Boxer-paws playstyle.

Then I'll take Brinxx and Shooter to rid me of my wall-vermin problems.

Hmmm, actually, I have a lot of slave labor (i.e., cleaning) that needs to be done, too... and lots of videogames for payment of said slavery... maybe you should leave me a kid, too? I mean, I've never had any experience with kids or anything, but I have a spare crate and know how to take care of a dog. It can't be that different, right? Stick out tongue

Not from Texas  . . . but I'll take 'em.  The more the merrier I always say.  Are they anywhere near the legal drinking age yet?? I mean within plus or minus 10 years is close enough for me.

Amanda, you can drop off as many kids and dogs as you want!  Twister loves little boys and he and Shooter will have loads of fun getting into trouble.  I might need to be sedated for the entire visit but we can order a turkey and fixings in case I'm too relaxed to cook. lol

Gosh, all the talk about Thanksgiving makes me nervous. It's not time yet. I don't want to think about Thanksgiving or Christmas until after our trip. We're going to be nervous wrecks about leaving the dogs as well. We're having the SIL of DH's daughter stay at the house. She's a college student and seems very responsible. I always worry more about the person watching them than I do about the dogs. Why anyone would want to stay after the see the lists we have regarding each dog, is beyond me. I'd better pay her well for this.

Tina - I'm sorry you're dealing with the stress and worry about your son. A good friend of mine has a son with the same issues and I know it weighs on her mind constantly. I'll keep Jake in thoughts and prayers.

Sassy got a new bone last weekend and is madly in love with it. It's one of those rubbery nylabones and she carries it everywhere she goes. Last night she decided to bring it in the bedroom about 11ish and chew away on it. It was like listening to a rubber band snap and I finally got up and put it on the washing machine. She then came and sat by DH's side of the bed whimpering, so he got up and gave it back to her. She's seriously a spoiled brat.

Forget Vermont, and DH's family, bring the whole brood to my 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo. Our patio is 20 x 20 so some of the big guys might be a little cramped (crapped? LOL) but we have a POND!

Or if FL is a no-go, send me a doxie. Because I really need more terrier spirit around here. I swear, for 12 years old, Tiki is 100 times the terrier that Pirate is. I can't imagine her as a young adult, she would have been a terror.

    Good vibes for Tina's son.

I have to do an activity for my student, and I'm basing it off of Louis Sachar's 'Holes'. I forgot how much I like this book, even if it is for 9-12 year old boys.

For my last mindless statement, is it bad if my dryer is unusually loud? I swear it's louder than normal.

Thanksgiving is this weekend for us up here in Canadialand.  I am havign thanksgiving at my house, which means i need to make food for 9 people gah.  And I have never cooked a turkey in my life!  I don't even know how to wash it! lol ahhh

    • Gold Top Dog
l.michelle, the turkey is the EASY part. You do have the turkey by now, though...right? If not, go RIGHT NOW if you want a frozen turkey to thaw by the weekend. A 10 lb'er will do. If you don't get the turkey ASAP, you'll need to get fresh (not frozen) which *I* think tastes better. I'm just not always willing to pay the extra $$ for it.

Either way, sit that sucker in a big pan on the bottom shelf of your fridge. Like so...

Then on turkey day, scrub your sink out, and sit Mr. Bird in there. Turn your oven on. The turkey will have a tag on it with the right temperature and times. Cut open the wrapper and check inside the bird for the neck and giblets. Gag when you find them. Ick. Rinse the bird all over, I use the sprayer. Make sure you rinse the inside out, too.

Set Mr. Bird on a roasting rack in a big pan. I cover it with foil first, and then take the foil off 45 minutes or so before it's done so the skin gets brown. My mother does it the other way, leaves the foil off, and then covers the bird when it gets too brown. Whatever.

I don't know what sides go with turkey there, but I made some AWESOME sweet potatoes last year. Sorry the link isn't active... [http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Sweet-Potato-Casserole-I-2/Detail.aspx]. I used fresh potatoes though, I just peeled, chopped, and boiled them until soft.

Thanks!!!!!  Now, I have the turkey, I don't remember what size it is, but it's big lol, it's in my freezer right now, when do I take it out for Saturday?

    • Gold Top Dog
Eeep! [http://www.butterball.com/tips-how-tos/tips/calculators-and-conversions] has a calculator for how long it should take to thaw...a 10 pound turkey takes 2 and a half days, so you better get thawing!!

There is a cold water thawing method, too, but I have no idea how to do that. The turkey's I've done have been 25+ pounds, so I've always gone with a solid 7 days to thaw in the fridge.

    • Gold Top Dog

Okay, so I will take it out as soon as I get home, about 5:30 today, then tomorrow and Friday will be two days then Saturday is when I will start cooking

Thank you so much for your help!  And stupid question, but I don't use soap to wash the turkey, right? and how do I wash the insides?  Apparently turkey giblets here come in a bag already removed from inside, I just *hope* my turkey is like that lol, if not, that will be Derek's job!  But how do I wash out the hole? lol

    • Gold Top Dog

Most of the time the giblets and other goodies are in a bag but the bag is inside the turkey. Be sure to check. You rinse the inside the same as the outside, Just open the hole and let the water run all over the inside. It's awkward if you don't have a big sink but it doesn't have to be exact and no, you don't use soap. :)

    • Gold Top Dog
BWHHAHA, NO don't use soap! I just use cold running water and kinda rinse it all over, with the kitchen sprayer. The top and bottom (where the neck and hiney were...) connect so you can just spray around in there, or I guess you could just hold it up to the faucet and run water through.

Honestly, I don't see the point of rinsing the darn thing...you bake it in an oven for like, a million years... I don't think that the germs that could survive that much time in an oven would be able to be rinsed off, you know? But that's just 'the way' so I rinse the darn thing.

Dang it, now I want to make a turkey. Usually BF's family and my family combine the weekend after T-day here, but his family was so darn ungrateful last year that I refuse to do it like that again.

    • Gold Top Dog

Worst case scenario, for a speed-thaw you can stick the turkey in a bathtub of cold water. Not recommended, but if you're in a pinch...

Also, for me, I like to brine the turkey before cooking. In my opinion it helps make for a moister turkey. Here's what looks like a good recipe: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/good-eats-roast-turkey-recipe/index.html

I also like to rub a little olive oil on the outside of the turkey-  helps make the skin golden and crispy.
