They don't have short hair but their grooming is ridiculously easy, they shouldn't even count as a longhaired dog really (they have a single coat).
Seriously, they are like cheating when it comes to their coat. All the beauty and fun of a wispy whimsical long haired dog with none of the up keep. All I do for Kirby is spend about 30 seconds each day running a pin brush through his fringes to prevent mats, and throw him in the tub once every month. They really are a wash and wear type of dog.
As for what I like about little dogs; its nice when you get dropped off, realize you have stepped out into a minefield of broken glass, and without a second thought can pick up your dog and carry them to the safety of the sidewalk. What I love their portability. It is so much easier to travel with them. More hotels accept them. Its easier to find apartments or rent. If your flying you can often keep them with you under your seat. Everything is also cheaper from meds too bones. It is because of the portability that I choose to go with a small breed for my first dog even though I always sort of pictured my first one being a medium-large breed.
