    Help..please...advice needed ASAP!

I told a friend it would be ok if she brought her 6mo old 75lb lab puppy over to our home to hang out and play with my 2 dogs for a few hours.   Well... To my suprize my dog bite her dogs ear and he had to get it stitched up to the tune of $500.   Should I offer to pay ALL or half the vet bill?

And if she says no do I still give her a check?   ~Lisa   Luchias@Hotmail.com

    Hi.  Welcome to idog.

I hate to say this, but unless her pup did something MAJOR, you should pay the bill.  If it were me, I'd INSIST on paying the bill.

Welcome to the board! I hope you will post picture's of your fur kids.

I agree if the puppy didn't do anything major to cause this to happen I would pay the whole bill.

    Hi and Welcome!!

I think you should offer to pay for the whole thing, if she says no then offer to pay half... if she says no, I dont know maybe just give her a check for half anyway (but I know some people who wont take money no matter what) so if shes that way then at least you offered.

I agree with all. And if the pup did cause the bite or a portion there of, I would offer to pay for half since you did give her permission to bring the pup. You didn't twist her arm to do so, she brought him there. I sure hope the pup isn't traumatised by the insodent.

IMO I'd only look to you to pay half the bill.  Yes, your dog did bite, but any time you have dogs playing together there is a risk of injury.  Was your friend there when it happened?  Not that it makes much of a difference, but then you'd both know what happened.

We had a similar thing happen on on our flyball team.  We have two high drive, high energy beginning dogs.  The JRT was running past the kelpie and the kelpie "herded" her over (a problem we'd been working on with her) and because the JRT was moving, what would have been a nip turned into a 2 inch tear through the neck.  It was so deep it actually didn't bleed until she got home, so the kelpie owner didn't know anything about it until the next practice.

Yes, it was the kelpie owner's fault for not having her dog completely under control.  But the JRT owner said, and I agree with her, that any time a dog has contact with another dog something bad could happen.  They split the bill and everything is fine.  Well, except the JRT at the next practice was so hyped to run that she knocked over a jump and skinned her knees...

I agree...you should pay the bill! Insist on it! Is the puppy okay otherwise? I hope so!
