It's only easy to get if the dog is trained. I've talked to many people whose dogs have failed it before.

So could people please bash it in another thread and allow me to actually be proud of my dog, after all the training I've done with him?

Yeah I'm sorry about that, but I haven't seen a topic about Canine Good Citizen since then. I really wanted to see what your opinion was and others. As I said, not trying to bring you down. I thought very highly of the CGC, and our shelter has these classes and an evaulator too. I've even attended these classes. So I'm not coming out of left field here as someone criticizing anyone. I think it is great about your dog Shippo. I said that. I was just curious as to why so many here think so little of it, that's all.

Nocturnal- thanks for further explaining your position. I admit to having my panties in a bunch when I saw your post because I thought that it might not have been the most supportive thing to say on someone#%92s celebratory thread. If hearing the news from others got YOU down, then it would likely get the OP down as well, so I agree with the idea that a new thread might be a great way to further explore your concerns. As for myself, I know NOTHING about the CGC testing, so I have nothing to add in that regard. But I would like to say [sm=bravo.gif] to Shippo and Cheetah on their good news and hard work![

I think you can see otherwise from this thread.
It's an accomplishment if only because it's evidence the owner worked to develop a relationship with their dog, to teach the fundamentals of obedience and be mannerly around other dogs and people. It's really not about anyone else's dog breezing through it or not. astaracheetah knows her dog and knows why this is an achievement she has every right to be proud of.

I dont' want to bring you down or anything by saying the following... but a lot of forum members have got me down about the CGC Test in one of the pit bull threads. Many different members from here called it a "Mickey Mouse Test". Meaning, that it's easy to get.

Let us know how easy it is to get once your dogs are CGCs. [

Shippo is SO handsome, he almost makes me want a floofy Corgi. I love that middle picture of him smiling. Very handsome boy.

Yes, astaracheetah, I have to add that those photos of Shippo are amazing! The colors are so vibrant, and the lighting is perfect. Shippo is a very very handsome dog, and your photography catches that well!

The GCC is a whole different thing from obedience trialing. Trudy knows when we are "doing obedience" and does pretty decently, but out of the obedience ring, she can be an over enthusiastic greeter (jumper) and a puller. Usually when we go to a trial, whether it is agility or obedience, I have to give her time to settle before taking her out of her crate to practice, then she is fine. She wants to say "Hi" to every dog and person at the trial. I'm a little nervous about how she will do during a GCC test. They are offering it here this coming weekend and I'm thinking of giving it a go.

I just saw the thread you were talking about - I skimmed through it, and only noticed one person bashing the CGC test. One person is not "so many people." One person is... one person.
