I was walking my two, this morning, Tiki in the stroller and Pirate next to me. We took the 'long' route, which goes near the elementary school. The traffic was slowed, and I heard barking so I turned around and WHAM. Big tan pit bull jumped out of this IDIOTS SUV, and ran to Pirate. She had him pinned to the ground by the neck and was shaking him!! This idiot owner (and I'm being polite) just SAT IN HIS CAR AND WATCHED. I kicked the dog away from Pirate, but it wouldn't let go, and no one else was doing anything, so I scooped Pirate up and held him up high in my arms while I kicked at the pit to get it away. I guess when I picked Pirate up, the dog bit my hand.
As soon as the other dog was secured I called the cops and EMS. The firefighters came and wrapped my hand so I could go to the ER, and I waited for the police to come. Of course, Pirate was scared of the dog coming back, afraid of the fire truck and then the fire men (who had to get close enough to look at my hand)...poor guy was just terrified. I couldn't even put him down, because he was trying to slip his harness and bolt. Finally my brother came ('Uncle Ethan' to the rescue!!) and Pirate leapt into his arms, like, take me home! We packed the stroller, Tiki, and Pirate up and dropped Pirate right off at the vet - I was afraid he'd have a seizure from so much stress :( and I didn't know HOW badly he was injured, since his fur is so thick I couldn't see through it.
Poor Pirate has TWO big puncture wounds, on his neck and shoulder, and a little bruising on his belly. He's got antibiotics, and pain medicine. I have two open scratches on my right hand, and more bite marks and scratches on my wrist and forearm. I went to the ER and they cleaned 'em up and gave me a tetanus shot (OW!)
If all the idoggers could please send Pirate the most love and snuggles you can - I think he must be really sore. He already has had two slices of turkey lunch meat, a cheese cube, and a lick of icing from my cake :)
