    New puppy cries a lot

I#%92m not sure if this needs to be posted here or in Training.

I have a little German shepherd puppy that is little over 7 weeks old now, and she whines and cries a lot.   I know for the most part it#%92s more of an adjustment period for her.  But what bothers me is when I#%92m out of her sight she will whine to the point it sounds like someone is trying to kill her.  When the killer cries happen I go over to her and love on her letting her know everything is ok.  I#%92m wondering if the killer cries are more of a puppy thing or is it a Shepherd thing.   Should I come over to her when she whines or cries or is it ok to let her cry some?   Because I would hate for something I#%92m doing or not doing turn into Separation Anxiety later down the road.

How long have you had her? She shouldn't even be away from her mommy yet!

If I had a pup that young I'd be carrying her around with me....

I agree I wouldnt worry about later right now as she is so young... she needs that comfort that she would normally have with her litter and mother.  Lucy was very young when we got her and did this whenever we left her alone, so we didnt at all until way later and she was really the only one who didnt care at all when we left home...  I dont think you would be adding to anything like SA by keeping her comforted at all times right now, but thats just from my experience.

We#%92ve had her for three days now.  I know that was Stupid on my behalf for taking her this early, and your right she needed to stay with her mother longer.  I shouldn#%92t have let the owner of the pups push me into taking her home this early.

For the  most part she is with me all the time, its when I try to do things around the house while she#%92s asleep and wakes up and sees I#%92m not there is when the Killer screams happen.

Lucy did this at night... we didnt sleep for a month the way we normally did b/c she was in her box then and just howled like your talking about... I was amazed that she could make such a noise.  She almost drove me to the loony house.  It will go away... shes just so young right now... glad you can give her a good home tho.  And all you can do is keep her with you as much as possible and when you cant shes gonna scream, I dont think theres much you can do right now other than try to be patient and keep her by you when you can.

You're also TRAINING her to whine! "If I whine, Mom comes and loves on me.  Hmmmm...Being the smartie that I am, I figure I can whie a LOT and Mom will come running every time!>

I'm sorry to have to tell you the bad news, but if you keep doing this with your puppy your going to end up with a big spoiled puppy!

It's found out that when it gives the killer puppy scream it knows your going to come running to it.

Beware this is what happen to this poor puppy. There is no treatment for this condition when it comes to this size.[:(]

I would possibly agree with you, but not at this age... I think they just honestly need it and as long as you adjust what your doing according to the age and growing... I dont think it will be a problem at all..

In fact, I think it would cause issues to ignore a puppy so young trying not to teach them not to whine.

Also, I dont know if she needs it but since we had Lucy so early and we knew she was young we took her to the evet who told us to add a teaspoon of Kayro syrup to her food until she was like 3 to 4 months to sort of make up for what she missed...?
