A pack?

    A pack?

Ok - it looks like I'll officially have a "pack" tomorrow.  I understand that to be 3+ dogs, right?  So, in your opinion what should I expect? How is having 3 dogs different than 2?

Also, he's a 5 month old puppy.  Nikki is about 15months and Missy is about 2yrs old.  What is the best way to introduce TWO dogs to a new pack member, particularly a pup?  I'll be going to his current home to meet him.

I'd appreciate any help with this.  I've tried various methods at introducing the girls to other dogs and have noticed that if I do it individually it's better, but if they aren't far enough apart it just incites the dog that's not meeting the other dog to insanity.  Also, because he's a puppy... i'm not sure what is the best thoughts on this.

    Thanks so much!

Is this the little guy that looks like Nikki?

Wow, Lani, how cool on the new baby!!  When are we going to see pictures???

You know your dogs the best.  Can you keep one dog in the house & introduce the new kid in the yard & then switch off dogs?  Or would the dog left in the house go nuts(er)?

Maybe have someone take each of your dogs to a nearby park separately to meet the pup.  Or give them something with his scent on it.  Dogs generally do well with puppies.  Animals are usually ingrained not to hurt babies.  Also if the pup has more of your scent on him when they meet him it would be better than if he smelled like say another female dog, especially one in tact.

The best way to do it is have someone meet you at a park with your new dog.  Walk your dogs alone for 30 minutes first.  Then with out stopping the walk add the new dog to the pack and walk them all for another hour.  Then head home.

You should be fine after that.

    Thanks guys! [:)]

I'm both excited, nervous... and a little concerned, I hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew!  A new puppy is gonna be tough, but he's so cute, I can't resist.

Thanks again for your help, I'm gonna try a modified version of the park/walk thing (he hasn't finished his vaccinations and parvo is RAMPANT in Hawaii.)  and hopefully it works out well.

Again, anyone want to share their experienced in going from a 1 or 2 dog family to a 3 dog home?  Any tips for me regarding how to maintain the best control over my miniature ;pack?

    Thanks again in advance!

Can you guess which one is Nikki?  [8D]  I'm sure you can see why it's hard not to take him, even though it maybe tough for awhile.
