Tootsie was attacked!!

I'm so sorry that happened to Tootsie. :( I trust Pit Bulls with people, but usually not other animals. I've had more than one try to go after my dogs. There is a really sweet Pit Bull puppy that our neighbor has that's fine with them.

I'm glad to hear that Tootsie seems to be doing well.

It's not the breed but that the breed is in the wrong hands!

I carry Direct Stop myself.  The "vicious" chow has gotten jumped on and bitten more times than you would believe.  And, every time it was her on leash and the other dog running up to her off leash.  Owner completely either on the other side of the park or unable to control the dog at all.

I'm glad Tootsie is OK.  You can get the Direct Stop at Petco.

Our next door neighbor got a Pittie puppy now about 7 months old, I trust this little girl, but then they got another one, a boy he now is about the same age, have not trusted him from day one.  Over the weekend they started to put up a fence and I am so relieved.  Don't take me wrong, their dogs are always on a leash and Bonnie loves to snoodle with them but we watch very very closely. *S*

That and the fact that now there is two of them....not two pittys....but two dogs.   I was told by the trainer that I took Gibby to that I should really try to stay away  from someone walking two dogs...that sometimes even though they are nice dogs....one tends to protect the other and Gibby doesn't need to be a part of that.

So that said.....that could make a difference too.

Years ago before I moved to where I live now... I had two dogs and one was a puppy Dane/Shepherd named Cindy.  There was a duplex next door and people moved in with a male and female pit bull and their 12 babies.   It was kind of funny...Zeke was the male and he was tan, Sarah was brindle. Half the puppies were tan and the other brindle.    These dogs were breeding dogs...and not bred for very good reasons as it turned out ( it was quite a few years ago before I really even heard the term Pit Bull!   There was a pen in the back of their house ( which is only a few feet from mine ) and they had the dogs in it during the day for the most part. Sarah could jump over that fence from a standstill...and I was terrified.  I would alway look to see if she was there before walking past her with my dogs to take my dogs for a pee.  But one day Sarah got out of the front door and ran after Cindy. Cindy ran to my back door and when she couldn't run any further she layed on her back....thank God Sarah gave up.....just stopped and looked at her and went home.   Shew.

I'm not scared now just more aware. I'm getting pepper spray.

Its a great idea to get it and keep it with you at all times when walking your dog. It give confidence that your dog can feel instead of stress or fright that we might feel knowing that their might be an attack lurking.

Oh gosh!  Poor Tootsie!  I hope she's doing ok.  It can be scary, I know.  Dahlia's been attacked a few times.  Please don't use this to hate pit bulls.  Despite their reps, they CAN play well with other dogs if they're well socialized and raised properly (same with most any dog as well).

Dahlia's been attacked a few times and each time has been scary.  The worst attack came from an unsocialized, underexercised Shiba Inu of all things.  Luckily Dahlia outweighed the dog by about 3:1 and wasn't hurt, but *I* got bit just by being too close (the dog redirected on me as I was trying to escape with my on leash dog).  She was also attacked by a Springer Spaniel and by a GSD mix puppy.

Each time we got back out there and introduced her to new, friendly dogs. So she's never developed a fear of other dogs (and in fact still thinks all dogs -- and cats and skunks (!!!) -- are there to be her friends).  I hope Tootsie can get back out there and meet some friendly dogs soon!

Oh goodness.  I know how you feel.  Such a helpless feeling when your dog gets attacked.  I am so sorry you had this experience.

Why my innocent, little baby? I feel so helpless  because I couldn't do anything while it was happening and I can't do anything now. She did nothing to provoke this and I couldn't even help her.

    Wrong place, wrong time.

Took Tootsie to the vet this morning and she checked out fine. Only one puncture in her left hind leg and since it was a puncture, no stitches! They didn't even shave around the area because its already forming a scab and the surrounding hair was holding the scab. She was up-to-date on all shots, so... thats it. They said hydrogen peroxide poured (1 capful) daily on the wound would help it heal. The best part was she weighs only 26lbs. The vet said that maybe she could lose a pound and a half, but for a 5 year old she was fine. So all the strangers who find the need to tell me that my dogs fat can buzz off! Shes acting pretty mellow for a corgi, but thats understandable. You know all the hair I complain about? Her hairy butt saved her!Big Smile

That's great that she checked out ok!

Glad the lil fuzz butt is healing up nicely!

Lol, I think it's probably the Corgi shape and all of her hair that people are misinterpreting as fat. I'm glad you found out that she's a good weight!

So glad that Tootsie is going to be OK, and as a pitty owner I am really sorry you had this experience.
