    I have a guest.(pictures added)

     A Great Pyrenees.

My friend found her on the parkway. She has a pink collar,no tags, and was dragging a leash. My friend stopped and asked around the side roads off the parkway if she belonged to anyone and some of the people she talked to told her the dog had been on the parkway since that morning. My friend picked the dog up at 9:30pm.

She called the dog warden and he told her he couldnt pick the dog up till the morning. Well my friend couldnt take her home with her because she lives in an apartment. What was she supposed to do with her just leave her on the parkway to get run over?

So of course when she asked me I said to bring her over and I would let her stay the night. She's got a belly full now and is resting now.

I'll get pictures of her tomorrow. I really dont want to let the warden take her(the pound he used to take dogs to is closed so I dont know what he does with dogs now) but one foster is all I can handle at a time.

wow dogs just find their way to you Indifferent how many dogs are in your home now?

7 dogs but I dont know if you would count Kujo since she's only 4lbs.Stick out tongue

But this GP is not staying. Like I said I cant handle but 1 foster at a time. Holly is my foster right now. And I know nothing about the breed. The warden is coming first thing in the morning to get her.

Here's a picture of the girl.

She is so scared but really loved it when I was petting her and loving on her.

She's beautiful! I'd take her in a heartbeat! Here's to hoping she finds her home.

Can you keep her for another day or so to get her into a GP rescue?

Here is a rescue reference list from the GP club from the AKC: http://clubs.akc.org/gpca/gresqcont.html

These are the specific KY references:

You have posted flyers, found dog ad, craigslist lost and found?  She could have jumped or fallen from a vehicle.  I hate to ask the obvious but since you didn't mention it, did you have her checked for a microchip?  Hope her owner can be found or she can get into rescue but until then at least she's safe for now.

np! gl! She's awfully pretty. Hopefully someone at the GP rescues will be able to take her of your hands and find out whether or not she has someone looking for her. Let us know how it goes!

Yes I think if she was dragging a LEASH....then perhaps the local pound is where she needs to be...while you and your friend post flyers in and out of the area. I mean someone could be LOOKING for the poor thing! You can always go and bail her out when her time us up there, too.

Glad she was taken off a dangerous road...maybe she escaped from a rest stop...that is very common...rest stops are loud unfamiliar places.

What a beautiful dog!  I hope the warden can reunite her with her owners.

*sigh* I just don't understand the point of a dog wearing a collar and walking on a leash but not having a tag.  The same thing happened to me - found a dog that looked like a pet and was wearing a collar but NO tag, NO microchip.  We called all the pounds and told them we found a Bichon, looked all over for an owner, even found a "Lost Bichon" sign and called the people but it was a different Bichon, and eventually turned the dog over to the shelter.  TAGS people TAGS!!!!

Maybe you could take her to the local pound so the owners have a chance of finding her, but in the meantime contact a rescue and they can be lined up to pull her if she isn't claimed...hopefully a rescue can be found that will help out in that event, especially if you are willing to help with pulling her or keeping her overnight again...

tags are only useful if they are up to date as well. These days, people change cell phones and numbers a lot more than they used to...some NEVER answer the house phone they put on the tag years ago....etc.

Keeping them current is super important...the microchip too...that only helps if the info on file...is current.

This is a BIG dog...wearing a pink collar and leash lol. I could easily see someone not strong enough like a child...walking this dog and the dog spooking or getting away. It happens...stupid yes to allow a child to walk pretty much any dog alone...let alone one that outweighs them...but I do see it.

I just know it's so much harder to find your dog in the backyard of someone who lives farther from the area it was lost than it is at a shelter where people even now in the digital age...are ingrained to look for their pets. I hope a home for the dog can be found...either her own, or a new responsible one.

Thanks Kim for keeping her safe overnight.

I'm taking my own advice and ordering leather gun dog collars that come with brass ID plates.  My dogs wear tags but Nikon's got ripped off the other day.  We're going on vacation in Aug so I don't want to take any chances, nor have them ripped off.  I might even order a set for vacation (with the local address and cottage phone) and a normal set with our cells.  I usually put three numbers on every tag (DH, me, and my parents).
