Mindless chatter Sunday

I cried at the end of Gran Torino too.

I can haz a Margarita too!  I would like lime sugar on my glass though...if its not too much trouble.

Does anyone have a pool boy?  The girls and I are planning one more trip to the cabin sometime this summer, sans kids and sans boys this time.  We started discussing the idea of hiring a cabana boy.  Our friend Brad(great tan, awesome abs) said he would do it for the day for $150.  That would include feeding us, rubbing lotion on us when needed, and of course running up the hill every time one of us needed a refill.  And I'm sure other things, like lighting the fire, bringing us towels, etc.  There are 3 of us, so $50 each.  This sounds perfect to me.  Oh, he also needs to be scantilly dressed of course.   Brad is a little uncomfy with the idea though since he's a close friend of ours, but still, he's yummy to look at bare chested...Sigh.   I love summer.

DH emailed me last night to say that he got word that he's above the cutoff for layoffs and he should report to work next weekend. Whew!!!!!
Great news for you and DH! (not so good for the others)

I meant to say "phew!" for you, too.  It's so hard watching people losing jobs, but scarier when it's services we all rely on, too.  The telemarketers, well, ok, a few less... but firemen, etc... not so much.

Here you go, little lady!  You better send Brad down here and I will interview him and if he's suitable, well maybe I'll send him back. It's a tough job interviewing pool boys but I'll make the sacrifice for you Candace.  LOL

See there???  I AM going nuts.  I'm taking time each and every day to enjoy the wildlife.  Who am I and what did I do with ME?

It's the southern heat. It makes you act odd. Now you know why I am the way that I am.

I've been working a lot, which is a good thing. Before I got my job, I went flat broke. not a penny to my name, overdrafts on the bank account. So, since I can't afford the overdrafts, I've been living on the cash from my paychecks and not going broke., saving about $100 a week. I think it makes a difference when you actually see the money in your hands. Anyway, so I've had Shadow on Purina One because it was the only thing I could afford and it was actually a meat-first diet. For a while, he had a lump in his throat hide and the first thing I thought was mast cell tumor or a benign growth. Now, I can't find it anymore and it may have just been a bug bite. But I couldn't afford a vet visit. I didn't even bother to mention it to DW. We were paying bills for a month or so on her credit card and I will take the heat. In fact, I would truly invite anyone to walk a few steps in my shoes. Non confrontation no harsh words. Climb up with me into the 60 foot bucket truck I was using Friday and lets fly up to the top of a parking lot pole light and fix it together. Meanwhile, it's averaging 100 F, lately. I'll even show you my paycheck, which is $3 per hour less than I used to make. Fortunately, I've been working long hours, which still nets a decent paycheck. So, I am getting back in the black. In August, Shdaow will be due for his vacc update and I will see if the vet can find anything. I can't and I just felt his neck (on the right side is where I first felt it.) It's gone. Next monh, his estimated birthmonth, he will be 6 years old. He's getting a little gray under his muzzle. He still likes to play drop it in my lap for treats and I spoil him rotten for that. I was so happy today to spend about 80 dollars today getting the little training treats that he likes (cheap), some worm preventative, not as cheap, and some Frontline Plus (so not cheap). We had been out for about a month or so at totally the wrong time.

Earlier this year, I had cashed in my life insurance to pay off property taxes included some from 2007 which were named in a lawsuit against me by my local school district. Anyway, the attorney firm that handles the school district action sent me a notice of intent to dismiss the lawsuit since I paid the last bit of it off in March, about a week before I was laid off from work.

About two weeks ago, DW fell and hit her head and had a big cut in the back of her head and we spent all night in the ER (they only have one doc). She had 4 staples put in the back of her head. The staples are out now. She thinks she tripped over Jade in the dark. I don't know. I was dozing on the recliner and heard a crash. I've been down the dark road before. The first thing I did was feel her carotid artery for pulse. Anyway, we got her up and flew in my car to the hospital. I don't think I did over 90 because the roads twist too much for more than that. Evidently, a bleeding head wound is not enough to get immediate attention.

And now, I'm on two different Guns and Roses forums and I'm a moderator on one.

How did I get this busy?

I need to force myself to go outside pretty soon and do some poop scooping in the heat - I can't let it go another day because the trash gets picked up tomorrow. I think I'm going to pull a bottle of Two Buck Chuck out of hiding and put it in the freezer.  I'll sip some over ice when I'm watching Army Wives. Smile

    Joyce

Oh my gosh Joyce, we should be neighbors. I need to go scoop poop too cause trash goes out in the AM. Don't want it sitting around in this heat any longer than necessary. I have opened my 2 buck chuck already though and it is yummy with some crushed ice....and I LOVE Army Wives. I can't stay up late enough, but I record it and will watch it tomorrow night - yay!!

I'm glad everyone's warned about Gran Torino and the tears at the end. I wouldn't have expected that but I'll be prepared and have a box of tissues handy.

This has been a really nice weekend. I got so much done, incuding some fun shopping and just really enjoyed it. I'm excited to only have to work 4 days this week too. I did get a VM msg from my Dep Dir's girlfriend that he'd been admitted to the hospital today. He'd been in pain this past week with what they thought was kidney stones. He'd had a Cat Scan but hadn't got the results. Apparently the pain got severe today and so they admitted him and say it's not kidney stones. He's a great guy and a great buddy of mine, so I truly hope it's nothing serious.

I'm so glad to hear that I haven't lost what little was left of my mind!  But, no, I haven't named anyone yet.  It's funny though, the really cute little guy (gecko) likes to FOLLOW me when I'm watering.  He literally pops up no matter what side of the garden I'm watering like he wants to see what I'm doing.  And yes, I do have a nurturing soul, but it seems odd to me to slow down and "smell the roses".  What the heck happened that I can suddenly take pleasure from these little things?  I was beginning to think I'd forgotten how to enjoy life.

The beach today was nice.  The water was pretty rough and battered me good both times I went in, so I didn't get to do much playing in the water, but, still, I enjoyed being there.  The top of me, which was pretty tanned already, got a bit pink, the legs look like they got NOTHING, and my face, which is the ONE place I actually use sunblock got even tanner.  I'm trying to keep the face from getting too much sun and ending up looking like leather someone forgot to take care of.....had on the sun visor and pretty much kept the face and top half of me under the umbrella. The LEGS were exposed to the sun, the rest of me not so much, but the legs still look like bread dough and the parts I more or less protected got pink.  Go figure.

You know you're getting "wiser" though when you decide you can't spend a couple hours at the beach without an umbrella......Sad  Poor DH.....I covered him good in an SPF 50.  He did his legs but failed to put any on the top of his feet!  Let's just say he's ok so long as he doesn't have to put shoes on. Fire engine red!

Cathy, I'm thrilled for you and your DH that he's keeping his job.  Good thoughts for the others and hopefully they won't be out long.  For crying out loud, you can cut stuff, even road work, but police and firefighters???  Somebody needs to pull their head out of their rear on that one.

Willa peed in the potty today! She's starting to get a prettty predicable poo schedule, and I've heard of kids being potty trained early, so I figured what the heck (she's 15 months). I bought a little seat that sits on the big seat yesterday. I sat her on it a few times yesterday, and only got a few toots out of her. LOL. She seemed to like sitting on it. She usually poops right after breakfast, but today she did during. So I missed it, no big deal. Right after she got up from her afternoon nap, I sat her on it. After about a minute, she tinkled a bit. It was so funny - the sound of it hitting the water actually startled her! Of course I squealed and clapped, and she got all happy. I'm sure it will be a long time before she is actually potty trained, and I'm definitely not putting any pressure on her.

Are you sure the little guy isn't trying to sell you insurance?

LOL - I was thinking the same thing.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and thoughts about DH not losing his job. It's such a huge relief. I can't even grasp what it would've been like if the worst had happened. Not sure how the city is going to manage with all the cuts to fire and police. We live in a different county and they haven't had the cuts and I'm thankful for that.

Speaking of potty training - I could swear it was on this site that someone was potty training their child (a boy I assume) and used the cheddar fish crackers to put in the water as something to aim for. The child did potty and mom went to get something as a reward and came back and the little boy had reached in and eaten some of the fish crackers. I laughed like crazy. Does anyone else remember that?
