    Mindless chatter Sunday

It's beautiful here this morning.  Think I might try to do a bit more weeding before it gets hot.

So FL squirrels are smaller than northern squirrels?  They're cute even if that aren't babies.  And I enjoy watching them and the birds at the feeder.  I think I'm loosing my mind because I TALK to all these creatures that get close enough.  And even worse, I'm really starting to believe that they can sense that I'm not a danger to them.  The tiny gecko climbed up on my foot yesterday!

I got a glimpse of a really small bird this morning...hummingbird size.  It was visiting the feeder and then flying up into the tree to eat.  It was so small that all I could see was a patch of red on it's head.  Sure hope it comes back....slowly....so I can get a better look.

See there???  I AM going nuts.  I'm taking time each and every day to enjoy the wildlife.  Who am I and what did I do with ME???

If that's the definition of being nuts, I've been crazy for my whole life. lol  I spend time every day outside in my little garden area watching the "wildlife", it's what keeps me sane. LOL

I wish I had more wildlife in my yard, but I always enjoy the songbirds, especially early in the morning.

It was 105 yesterday and will be the same today. It's 74 degrees now and it's not even 7 yet. We usually cool down nicely at night but not when we get these heat waves.

DH emailed me last night to say that he got word that he's above the cutoff for layoffs and he should report to work next weekend. Whew!!!!! Everyone is hugely ticked off at how the union has handled things. I think the union totally misread the amount of bargaining power they had and have been quite embarrassed by things but won't admit they blew it. About 30 firefighters are going to be out of work next week and they're the real losers in all of this and that makes me mad.

Its nice here too. I think I will walk neiko out to the park and do some frisbee before it gets too hot.

I left the back door open last night to get some cooler air in. Sunshine slept outside all night. I was suprised.

My neighbor is on my porch blowing grass clipping away and its feaking out the dogs.

Absolutely the same here - if I can't get outside and check everything out I go nuts.  The more nature I can commune with the more peaceful my soul.

Speaking of which it was very nice early on here too today.  B & I were out a 6 and didn't get back until nearly 8.  We wandered down to the lake, on the trails and through our neighborhood (which is very spread out and has tons of natural areas)  Saw a hawk take a squirrel. Marvelous.

Need to do some work today on a proposal.  Hopefully I can knock that out in a couple of hours and enjoy the day. Probably near 90 already.

LOL I really don't like shopping but I went to TJMaxx yesterday and got quite the haul.  DH was like zowie how unlike you, he he he.

Does anyone else feel the urge to start celebrating the 4th early?  I just want to hang out BBQ and drink beer.  I think I have issues Stick out tongue

    Oh yes. Oh yes indeed.

So all of us are tired and sore today after spending time out at the farm. Kord is even playing low key, thank doG for small favors.

I managed to get my sore tired self out of bed and to the garden this morning, it was soaking wet, so it did rain sometime overnight. I had to add some more dirt around some of the plants, this constant rain is eroding the ground around established plants now, and that is never good. So I fixed those, weeded and planted leeks, radishes and celery this morning. I now have a headache and plan to relax the rest of the day.

We brought home some fresh from the chicken chicken eggs and venison brats from the farm, so I am making eggs and biscuits, yummy, fresh brown eggs, got to love them.

When we got home last night we had a surprise waiting for us. We pulled in and startled 2 young kittens. Little grey tabby fluff balls. The skittered off and I told my husband the neighbors unfixed cat has been busy. Well this morning when I pulled in from the garden I caught a glimpse of movement between the garages, and sure enough one skinny mama cat was feeding Frick and Frack, yes they all have names now, yes I fed them. Yes I took pictures. I have 2 cats indoors and cannot take them in, but if I can get them tame enough might be able to find homes for them. I had to scatter the dry food I put out because one kitten was very dominate over the other and even hissed at Mama cat. That will not do, she is a good mama, skinny to the point of emaciated, but the kittens are both fat and sassy.

    Breakfast calls.

But, I don't DO that stuff.  I'm a major type A personality and always on the go.  First Corky got me to slow down and enjoy watching her play in her pool, and now this??  It's really cool, but it's so not me!

I am ALMOST finished weeding the first flower bed.  Got a huge chunk done this morning, and pulled out the upstarts that showed up in the already weeded part.  One more little section to do tomorrow if I can get out there early enough and then I can start on the next garden. That one shouldn't be as bad because most everything in there is weeds.

I am too. I cannot seem to relax until things I want done are DONE. But I'm learning. And I like it.

My husband jokes around and tells me if someone needs anything done fast they need to call me, I do everything at 100 mph and I am ruthless in approach and technique. He tends to stay out of my way. And that is why I didn't blink an eye when you said the word..HATCHET. Stick out tongue

I have had to learn to slow down, not an easy thing. But the dog, the garden and nature make me, because I love observing wildlife and nature, I love playing with Kord and I love to garden.

When I garden I have to remember that once upon a time, people had all day to work the weeds and plant and nurture a garden. I have less time, and have learned to take it slow. Yes I have limited time to grow, but some things don't need 100 plus days to mature. So now I plant a few things today, and a few tomorrow. The veggies and fruits that need time are already in the ground. I have 123 days yet to garden, so I am not going to rush anymore. I walked away today after weeding one 60 foot row and planting 3 things. I still have to weed 4 rows and have 12 more pkg of seeds. I was proud of myself for not pushing and doing it. For me that was major.

    How is Corky btw?

    • Gold Top Dog

I've always found time for gardening...veggies though.  Flowers came later when and if I had time.  Playing in the dirt feeds my soul.  But standing in the window watching birds and squirrels??  Chatting to the gecko's?  Thats not me, but I like it!

    • Gold Top Dog

Yes, it is you. It is one of the things I count on with you. Remember we know how you came to have Corky. You sap you. It will be the same reason why I wind up with 3 more mouths to feed.

You, like many here, have the soul of a nurturer. Be it human, animal or floral. I can do flowers, but they don't thrill me like veggie gardening does. I love the feeling that I get when I nurture a plant from seed to produce. The food is nice, and will help, but that is not why I do it. In fact this garden if all goes well, will produce more food than my DH and I can eat. So a lot of it will end up at the office going home with the bosses, or patients and many of my neighbors will get their share as well.

Does your little gecko have a name?

    • Gold Top Dog

I named my toads! Lol. I have 7 squirrles around my house that I counted!! Im gonna go get me a squirrel feeder. I also have 4 Blue Jays and a pair of Cardinals. I always heard if you have Blue Jays you wont have Cardinals but I have both!! I like my wildlife too.Big Smile

    Whew!

It's cool again here today, but 60-70s feel much better than the 90s we've had!

Willa's down for her nap and I'm still a laundry-crazed fool today. Our dryer squeaks really bad, so I don't run it when Willa's sleeping. I've got one more load to dry and one in the washer. Then I should be all caught up... for a day or so anyway. I think I might wash the throw blankets tomorrow.

Just different varieties -- the ones in MY yard all know me and I've named them.   And a few years when I found ST (Short Tail) in the road where someone had hit him I went in the house, found a box and lied it with something soft, and went and got him and David buried him that night.  He was nearly family.  LT (Long Tail) is still here with a new family I think --

They **DO** sense your intent.  Any wildlife rehabber will tell you that -- I talk to the gekkos ALL the time.  One got caught inside on the screen of my kitchen last weekend and I couldn't reach it.  So David played hero and it obligingly ran straight into a Glad container (David's hand behind) and David got him outside.

It could have been a hummingbird, Glenda -- they are active in the morning and around dusk.  I've got tons of them down here and THEY are fun.  They do get to know you and will zoom by to say "hello" and "Bye".  They seem to love laughter.

Taking time each day to enjoy the wildlife will make you live longer and healthier and happier.  It's not a nuts thing -- it's a good, relaxing, healthy thing!!!

Yes, and they will hover around looking in the windows if the feeder needs to be refilled! "Hello people!! See how fast these wings are going? I'm burning lots of calories here. Nectar please!" Stick out tongue

I'm glad to hear this for your DH but it's too bad that any firefighters have to lose their jobs.

It is hot, very hot.  I think I'll make some nice cool adult beverages.  We watched Gran Torino this afternoon.  I cried like a baby.
