When I went through this, one of my cats was very hostile. Within limits, allow the cats to 'teach' the pup how to treat the cats. The cats will hiss, yowl, swipe, and bat at your pup for a little while, continue to keep the pup in his play area where cats can sniff and see the pup. They will acclimate over time. Whenever they interact on a positive note and you see it happen, don't hesitate to give the cats a tidbit treat. Something very valuable and tasty. Let the cats see you handle and talk to this 'intruder' pup in loving tones and they will see that he belongs there. Over time, you judge- one or more weeks, allow the pup to explore outside his confines with and without the cats present. The cats will help raise the pup, teaching him what is okay and what isn't on how to behave with his feline siblings. A swipe on the nose can leave a bloody scratch, and I found that to be a lasting lesson for my pup. Sounds harsh, but you can't rush or force the cats into accepting the pup. It will happen in due time. My dog grew to be very patient, tollerant, and accepting of all my cats. Just don't allow full blown fighting. Do not put hands in the middle of any battles, put a blanket over a fight like that. (If it happens at all). Be patient, and loving, acceptance will happen. Jules
