Everything is getting smaller!

I use coupons too.  I have to force myself to set aside an hour or so once a month to weed through the expired ones and clip, sort and file the others.  Often the store brand is cheaper than the brand name w/a coupon.  The only thing I'm a *brand name stickler* for is mayo.  Has to be Best Foods (that's Hellmans for some of you guys) - they could be selling Krafts for a dime and I'd still buy the Best Foods. Smile DS #1 and DGS eat lots of cereal so I stocked up yesterday at Save Mart. Three good sized boxes of their brand cost a bit over $8 and I know that the brand name of the same ones would have been more like $12/$15 since a lot of them are between $4 and $5 a box.

Isn't that nuts?  Each bowl of cereal is like a dollar!  DH sometimes eats cereal for dessert or a snack, so we've gone through a box in 24 hours -- breakfast, snack and breakfast again. I'm not even all that old and I can remember when cereal was way cheaper, it used to be the highlight of the shopping trip when mom let me pick out what kind of cereal I wanted for the week :)

I swear things like paper towel rolls and TP rolls are shrinking, too, but I have to admit that I don't normally count the sheets or anything.

Oh man -- all you guys can have ALL MY CEREAL ***FOREVER***.  I haven't voluntarily eaten cereal since I left home (cold or hot -- I hate both) so according to your standards I guess I'd be a cheap date huh??

You were mentioning paper towels -- that's another one they play games with.

First you have the competition now where they have the "pick-a-size" which simply makes at least 2 or 3 "pieces" out of one towel.  So then you have to convert "square feet" of area only to then also be defeated by how "absorbent" something is.  But then they can also claim down the road the one that has the smaller sheets now has "more sheets on a roll" -- they're all just little "smoke & mirrors" type tricks to try and confuse you and get you to just pick up whatever is most prominently displayed.

But there is also a big ploy right now between the "8 roll packs" that advertise "More square feet than most 12 roll packs" because they're simply bigger rolls (which is CHEAPER for them to package because they don't have the expense of the cardboard cores in the center

I keep talking about my Grandmother but I remember another of her favorite things to do was if she just wiped up water with a paper towel, she would straighten it out and hang it over the towel rack to dry to RE-USE it.

You know that sounds silly but ... Grandma knew a lot of wise things that most folks would pooh pooh -- she had the cleanest home on the planet but the lady knew how to conserve!!

i have an issue with this methodology.... at some point the roll doesnt easily fit onto the holder.... at least not at my house.

Bradley, maybe you can invent a household t.p. holder designed for bigger rolls.  You know, bigger than the standard, but not as huge as the ones in public bathrooms.

now there is a thought.... i was wondering what i was going to do when the economy forced me onto the streets. :D

Some women are turning to stripping, but I think there is a time limit that one has the chance of success at it.  Toilet paper is for a lifetime!

And to think you got the idea on a dog forum.  I hope you'll remember me when you hit it big. Wink

    • Gold Top Dog

i def. think stripping is not an option for me. nobody wants to see that happen i assure you!

the good thing about the TP idea is that i could just sell it to someone and collect royalties right? :D

Nuts for sure! The boxes all say a serving is something like 1/2 to 3/4 cup but in my house they pour it into pasta bowls. It's not unusual for me to by a box of cereal in the morning and find it empty and collapsed on the kitchen table that night, ready to go into the recycle bin.Sad

If you hit it big with the TP dispenser, you can afford to hire a personal chef and a trainer...LOL
