does your dog's tempermant fit the standard?

Hi, I was just wondering does your breed of dog fit the tempermant/personality part of its breed standard? As for the mixed breeds which breed do you think your dog leans toward in personality?
Sophie(an aussie) almost fits the standard to a tee, except for the part about being reserved around strangers. She loves new people she wouldn't make a good guard dog![8D]
Jake a pointer/lab is definitely more a pointer than a lab!If he sees a cat he'll stop lower his head and point!

Ace is a lab/husky mix.  I'd say he is more lab than husky in personality -- he's an obsessive retriever, people-oriented, very eager to please, very trainable.  But there also are clear husky traits -- he never gets cold, loves snow and ice, digs to stay cool, and pulls like a maniac.  And he's got a husky metabolism instead of an eat-till-I'm-bursting lab approach.

    From the AKC standard:
    Temperament
True Labrador Retriever temperament is as much a hallmark of the breed as the "otter" tail. The ideal disposition is one of a kindly, outgoing, tractable nature; eager to please and non-aggressive towards man or animal. The Labrador has much that appeals to people; his gentle ways, intelligence and adaptability make him an ideal dog. Aggressiveness towards humans or other animals, or any evidence of shyness in an adult should be severely penalized.

Kindly, outgoing, tractable nature; eager to please and non-aggressive towards man or animal- yep that's Caleb!  He hasn't met a person or critter yet that he hasn't liked, has been incredibly easy to train.  Oh yeah- and always has a toy in his mouth, too.

Marlowe's lazier and less clowny than your average coonhound, but in other regards yes, he definately fits the standard--he's like the loviest most affectionate cat you've ever met lol.  I don't know what Conrad is definately for sure but if my guess is right on bloodhound mix, he's got some of those traits--he's ridiculously sensitive and soft, and completely fixated on scents. When he's not on a scent he's actually quite biddable and velcro (I think he may be mixed with lab), but when the nose goes down, the ears go deaf and the brain shuts off.

    From the AKC Standard:

The breed has a distinct personality marked by direct and fearless, but not hostile, expression, self-confidence and a certain aloofness that does not lend itself to immediate and indiscriminate friendships. The dog must be approachable, quietly standing its ground and showing confidence and willingness to meet overtures without itself making them. It is poised, but when the occasion demands, eager and alert; both fit and willing to serve in its capacity as companion, watchdog, blind leader, herding dog, or guardian, whichever the circumstances may demand.

Jaia fits this perfectly. B'asia, not so much. I raised Jaia from 8 weeks and didn't get B'asia till she was 4 months, so I think that's part of the difference.

This is my Aussie as well. He is intolerant of puppies, likes dogs, really likes female dogs but is people crazy!

    Temperament
The characteristic temperament of the Siberian Husky is friendly and gentle, but also alert and outgoing. He does not display the possessive qualities of the guard dog, nor is he overly suspicious of strangers or aggressive with other dogs. Some measure of reserve and dignity may be expected in the mature dog. His intelligence, tractability, and eager disposition make him an agreeable companion and willing worker.

This fits Harley to a T.  I don't really see any of the GSD traits in her.

From the ASCA Australian Shepherd Breed Standard:
"The Australian Shepherd is intelligent, primarily a working dog of strong herding and guardian instincts. He is an exceptional companion. He is versatile and easily trained, performing his assigned tasks with great style and enthusiasm. He is reserved with strangers but does not exhibit shyness. Although an aggressive, authoritative worker, viciousness toward people or animals is intolerable."

Sequoyah fits the standard pretty well.  Very smart girl, very herdy - and an exceptional guardian.  With her family, the term "exceptional companion" is right on the money - she is an affectionate, sweet, fun girl.  She is an excellent worker, and will perform her job accurately as soon as she is taught what to do.  She is reserved with strangers, and will guard property, but has never been dog aggressive and can be called off a running animal.  Aussie through and through!

When we adopted our dog they had him listed as a shepherd mix, but we think he has staffordshire terrier in him.  He fits the temperment of a staffie almost perfectly, but not so much the shepherd.

Schmee is a corgi/beagle mix and she's very friendly and outgoing. She will bark and posture if someone unfamiliar is coming up the stairs, but she will play with them once they come in. She's very food motivated.

But one thing that doesn't come from either is that she is very trainable. As long as you start with little to no distraction she will do whatever you want. She's very eager to please and learn.

I think Gingerbread fits the Shih Tzu standard to a "T". He's sweet, calm, laid back but still playful, slightly independent, a good watchdog but also friendly to people and other dogs. Fudge mostly fits the standard, but he's a scaredy cat so it takes him awhile to warm up to people and he's still hesitant. He's also a little more high energy that most Shih Tzus.

No, from what I've gathered talking to people and reading about it, Papillons are supposed to be happy and outgoing.  These were the traits that I was hoping for when I picked a papillon as my next breed of dog.

Jester, however, is quite timid and sensitive.  Although these traits are prevelant in some lines, it is certaintly not what the breeders are going for.  Don't get me wrong, I love my dog, but he is a lot more work that he would have been if he had fit the breed stereotype.  I had always planned on getting another Papillon, but now I'm not so sure.  I guess its worth researching for a good breeder with emotionally stable lines.

Thats sophie! Actually her inability to get along with the new puppy in the family was the reason her old family gave her away! But she got along fine with my friends yorkie puppy.
