The things we go through in the name of vainity!

Ah - wish I thought my coworkers were the type to wax in general; they're all workaholics and I doubt they'd take the time to make regular waxing appointments. Huh?  Any other ideas?  I might ask at my agility class since it's all women lol.

How is waxing for sensitive skin? I've done a few at-home waxing jobs on my less sensitive parts (lower legs, primarily!) and my skin always gets really red and puffy afterwards. I can only do a couple strips at a time before I have to take a break and ice/soothe my skin. Even though the pulling itself doesn't hurt that much, the inflammation afterwards is a killer!

How bad is it when you go in for a professional job? I'm assuming maybe they have some sort of helpful aftercare?

I have a really high tolerance for pain, so I can't really speak as to how painful it is.  For me, on a scale of 1-10, the pain is around a 3.  I barely notice that I'm being waxed, & I have been known to make phone calls during my waxing appointment.

I do have very sensitive skin, though.  My lower legs are usually red & a little puffy afterwards.  I've found that taking Advil about 30 minutes before my appointment helps reduce the swelling very quickly.  By the next morning, my legs are back to normal.  I use baby oil to remove any residual wax after my appointment.  Other than that, I do nothing out of the ordinary.

I tried to prepare for a wax last summer, but i couldn't stand my hair that long...i went about a week without shaving and i just went crazy.

woMan, I must be the biggest wimp ever.  I've been getting my eyebrows waxed for years....and it hurts every time.  Yes, less but still hurts.

I learned real quick that they must apply baby powder first.  The first time I had my brows waxed, I didn't know any better, and it felt like 3 layers of skin came off.  Ouchie!  The skin was red for days.  I am too chicken to do the bikini wax...but want to do it.  So, I resort to just shaving the area.

Any other thoughts than asking coworkers?  I'm the only female in my area....and I'd really just rather not have that discussion w/ them Wink

Try asking at an adult store. That's what I did since I don't have coworkers. Lol.  I just asked the worker there if they knew of any place that does waxing.

You guys are braver than me!! Heck I dont even go to the dr. for paps so I know I'd never make it for a waxing. I'll stick to my razor and the privacy of my bathroom!!

LOL!  I go in for those but I Hate it!!!  My doctor is great and he goes fast but I still don't like laying on that table, spread eagle while someone pokes around in my area!!

Oh, that is not good to hear.  You must go to the doctor annually to get a pap smear...please.

Paps are important!!  I was pretty nervous about going the first few times myself, but I found a great female dr. (I'm soooo much more comfortable with a woman because afterall she has the parts herself so they aren't anything too fascinating lol) and then another when I moved and I'm now pretty comfortable with the whole thing.  It's important for your health to go regularly!

Amanda is right about taking Advil or Nuprin 30 minutes before your appointment.  That takes the edge off.  I've never had a Brazilian (that would be excruciating - with pain and embarassment!).  However, the "regular" bikini wax is so quick that the pain is over nearly as soon as you feel it -- like pulling off a bandaid.  I think the pain depends on your tolerance, but it also depends on if you have coarse or fine hair.

It is a drag having to wait for grow-out.  This year I decided to do my underarms for summer, so I started in the winter so I could grow it out without wearing tank tops, etc.  It was gross, but very worth it.  It's so nice to not have to shave, and I swear it reduces perspiration (or at least the need for deodorant - no hair means less bacteria maybe?).

Yeah, you need to go, really. It's definitely survivable. I am one of the most self-conscious people you'll ever meet - I am TERRIFIED of contact like that, and I survive just fine. For me, it really helps to have a female doctor. Plus, you have to think that's what they're doing ALL DAY, so while it may be a big freakin deal for you, for the Dr. it's just business as usual!

So hmm... maybe I just convinced myself to try going in for waxing! Stick out tongue

Yes...get over it and GO, Kim.

As a Mom you need to set the good example, scary as it is. This is the ONLY reason I go to the dentist LOL.

I actually took Lily in with me my last annual/Pap...maybe sounds weird, but I and the doc were able to explain in HER terms what was going on. No, she did not watch but she was up by my head. I wish as a young girl I had been able to go. I was TERRIFIED my first time and had no idea what anything my Mom said would happen...actually MEANT.

My daughter could see nothing bad happened, I was not in any major pain, and hear from the doc how important ALL parts of your body are and how important it is to get them regularly seen to.

The above might make me a weird Mom but my kiddo is going to KNOW about her body and how to care for it...not be in the dark like I was LOL.

My mom actually made me go with her once, too - pap and a mammogram. Honestly I hated it, but I did appreciate the thought behind it :p these days a lot of fears can be assuaged with a little googling, anyways :)
