Dog/Owner Stereotypes

    Dog/Owner Stereotypes

Ok, some backstory:  My fiance has taken over all Jester care in an attempt to bond more closely with the dog and relieve some of the dog-human stress in the house.

Yesterday was the first day he took Jester for a walk by himself.  He was gone for about a half hour and when he came back he was pretty annoyed.  I asked him what was wrong, and he said he was harrassed three times on the walk.  Apparently, walking the Papillon makes him gay.  He had a bunch of guys working on a roof shout to him asking if he was a girly man and other rude comments.  One guy slowed down his car to say, "Dude, what are you?  Gay?" and then another guy walking on the street made similar comments.  What the heck!?  This makes me feel like I live in a town of backward hicks.

On the plus side (from Matt's perspective) apparently he got a lot of female attention when walking Jester.  Maybe that helped his bruised ego... lol

That's pretty bad....I'm sorry for your SO. Totally immature responses from the men.

Perhaps you need to get him a shirt that says...
"Real Men Don't NEED Big Dogs" or "My Supermodel Girlfriend Loves This Dog"...lol.

Hmm.. maybe I should get him this t-shirt from Amazon:

Not that he'd be caught dead wearing it, but hey...

I like the supermodel girlfriend loves this dog idea lol

Now this is just me thinking out loud but how about moussing the Paps fur into a mohawk, adding a spiked collar and arm bands and walking the dog on a "catch pole" like the AC people use?[;)]  Then if anyone says anything inform them that this is a rare french fox dog and they are all born with rabies.

But in truth I think it's pretty stupid for people to generalize or stereotype based upon breeds of dogs and their owners.  I like the ideas about the Tshirts though.

How about matching shirts for him and the Pap?

This story reminds me of a night I was at a bar and this enormous Vin Diesel jacked guy comes storming  in.. he was huge and I would not want to meet him in a dark alley...and he is holding a little black chihuahua. He starts yelling at the manager telling him that the bouncer outside had just made fun of him for having the little dog. He was going off saying that if his employee is on duty he should not be making remarks to passerbys (he's right, of course). Meanwhile, since I am standing there, I start petting the dog. The guy glance at me and holds the dog out so I could reach him better while still yelling at the manager. He he's standing there pointing at the manager and yelling, and has his other hand extended out toward me so I could pet the dog. It was hysterical.

Yes, people are surely ignorant when it comes to dogs. People get breeds of dogs for a number of reasons and it is ridiculous that they are sterotyped because of it. A dog is a dog.

Someone once asked me if i was a lesbian because i had big dogs....ummm, what?

Hmm that's a new one! Thought you were only supposed to make asinine assumptions about women if they had cats...LOL!

the story about the Vin Diesal guy and the chihuahua was hilarious!
my brother is a big tough copper.... he has owned German Shepherds and Rotti mixes and didnt really do well with them. he was trying to choose breeds to fit the cop stereotype.... but you know what breed he prefers? Chihuahuas. yup. he had a girlfriend that had a chi, and that dog was his buddy. then she bought several chihuahua puppies.... his apartment was like the episode of Star Trek with the tribbles..... but by nature he's a cat person.... he has all kinds of weapons, hand guns, rifles, shot guns, knives, cop/military stuff.... and he loves chihuahuas.

i am reminded of the phone commercials with the geeky henchmen.. where they kidnap "Fluffy" and this HUGE Lou Ferigno guy who is putting up lost Pug fliers comes charging after them..

i have to admit..... i own bullies but i am a sucker for Beefcake guys lol especially ones with cute little fluffy dogs on strings in the park. you cant tell me that those guys dont know they're chick magnets lol

and  i never gave much thought to what people might think of women that own large dogs i dont know what stereotype i would have since i am a small built person with 80+ lbs of dog at the end of a leash..... i'm not butch looking, but i'm no paris hilton either... i'm just.. a girl with kids and a husband lol

    Wait... papillons aren't macho dogs?

Beau will beat them up. LOL

Okay, so I am guilty of making fun of the men I know with papillons.  (Especially my father).  Them and their little fluffy dogs.

You should have seen Beau with one of his handlers!  He's a HUGE bald man who shows toys.  So funny!

That picture of Beau is completely adorable!  For some reason, his whiskers sticking just make the pic, don't ask me why lol.

It's one thing to tease people you know, it's another thing to make rude, derogatory comments to a complete stranger.

Speaking of men and their fluffy little dogs, my dad LOVES Jester.  Everytime I go over to my parents I have to take the dog so they can visit.  My dad ignores me when I'm over there, but Jester has to help him read the paper!  lol  [:D]
