We never leave Molly alone in a vehicle in the summer whether the vehicle is running with the ac on or not. Either Hubby or I stay out in the vehicle with her with the air on or else we take her to my MIL and she plays with Patsy the Pug while we are shopping. We went to town today and its was hot. Molly needed her nails trimmed. Right after that she went to see Pasty the Pug while we shopped. Shes having fun in a cool house so I can shop knowing she is in good hands. If by some chance MIL is not home Molly either goes to my sisters house or my daughters house. If everyone is busy Molly can go to her vet as they told me I could drop her off anytime I needed to and they keep her while we are shopping. I`ve never had to leave her at the vet but it is a nice thing to know that I can if I need to.

There have been times when I have to leave the dogs in the car with the a/c running.  It's usually just to run into the gas station or something.  I would we willing to bet the farm that there is a much better chance of getting into a car accident while driving with one of my dogs then having the engine crap out on a well maintained 3 year old car in the 4 minutes it takes me to pay for my gas.  Therefore, I suppose that my dogs should always stay home--Jack should never go to physical therapy and Sally should never go to the trainers, as both of those trips generally require me to get gas at some point.  I suppose I could just let the car run out of gas and we could BOTH drop dead of heat stroke though [8|]......

For myself, I try to work around the dogs needs when we are out.  But, yeah, if I MUST get gas, well, so be it.  Clearly I can't leave the car running while I pump gas, but it takes very little time to eat a major hole in my wallet at the pump.  I almost always pay at the pump, but on the occassions that I do have to go inside, I move the car away from the pump and lock it up but use the remote start to leave it running for them.  99.999% of the time, what I need I can get at a drivethrough.  If i happen to be on the road alone with a dog in the car and I can't sneak (try THAT with a GSD) him into the bathroom with me, same thing.  Car is locked and restarted with the remote.  I don't need to stretch, since i do that while walking my dog, I don't need to wash my hands since I keep sanitizer in my car, and I surely don't need to comb my hair or check my makeup.....I JUST need to empty an overflowing bladder at times like that.

I understand the objection to leaving a dog in a vehicle while folks go shopping, or while they eat a meal.  And yes, sometimes horrible things do happen in the amount of time it takes to pay for your gas or whatever, I've SEEN horrible things happen, but in my humble opinion, I think we all need to lighten up a bit..  When others are made to feel like they don't deserve to own a dog we are being a bit heavy handed.

What have you done for dogs other owning one? Like I said my dogs are left with the air going and the car is left where I can see it. I also train, do volunteer work and rescue. So I am just wondering what you do seeing I am not a good owner?????

I do think that if people on here should not own dogs I just don't think they would be on a dog forum talking about their dogs. I guess I should say in most cases they wouldn't waste their time or even look for a forum.

Different state in this one I can and will continue if the dog is with me and I need milk I get it. I would never leave any child in the car because they could not protect themselves but good luck to the person who opens my door up!
When this post was first put up it was a question on if you see a dog left untended while someone for example is in a grocery store or out to eat what would you do? It wasn't on kids or the mechanic's of a car, it was on dogs being left to long in cars!.Also in the same post it was asked if there were laws in your state about it, there isn't any in mine except leaving a dog in the car in certain weather.
