    I'M LIVID!!!

Well, actually, I've had a little time to calm down, but I'm still very angry.  I was having a lovely afternoon with my friend today.  We had done some shopping for her new place and were visiting with one of her neighbors at her new apartment complex when a tan pit bull ran by and then his owner ran after him cursing him and trying to catch him.  I went around the other side of the building partly with the intent to help catch him, but mostly just to make sure he wasn't hurting the dog.  The way he was cursing at him to come back made it ;pretty obvious this guy wasn't the best dog owner.  Well, he caught the dog after a long series of threats and curses, and came around the corner with the dog completely lifted off the ground by his collar.  I was so angry I couldn't hold my tongue and told the man that he would probably have an easier time catching him if he didn't treat him that way when he DID catch him.  The guy told me to "shut the f*k up, beeyatch." That he didn't need to be told NOTHING about no dogs.  I told him that I had a pit bull as well, and I was pretty familiar with dog training, and then he proceeded to tell me that he BREEDS them and that I don't need to talk about sh*t I don't know nothing about.  I said, "well, that's GREAT to hear knowing how you treat them!"  He was then carrying the dog, who had scars ALL down it's back with hair missing, by the skin of his back and his collar.  I asked him to please put the dog down and let him walk, that I was going to report him to AC, and has he ever heard of animal abuse?  He then said, "have you ever heard of MURDER?!"

So yeah....that was my afternoon. I feel SO bad for causing trouble at my friend's new place, and I'm really worried for her, now, although he doesn't know which apartment she's in.  I just couldn't hold my tongue!  Everything that I have been angry about with pitbull owner's like that came rising to the top.  *sigh*

Lexi - call AC and the PD.  Sounds like this guy is nothing but trouble and that he is probably into fighting, etc.  I wouldn't take any chances, document what happened and report him to everyone that will listen!

I would def call whoever you can to report the condition of the dog... they will hopefully check it out and take them from him if he is treating them badly.  I would also document what he said about murder just in case...

I think what Terri & Amy said are good suggestions.  I know you are worried about your friend's safety, but I think you were right to speak up.  Sounds like the dog has been fought.  Grrr...people are so ignorant sometimes.[:@]

make sure you also report to the police his implied threat (they will jump on him quick if they are worth thier salt). Report him also to Apartment Management, as they would be liable for a dog like that (sounds like a fighter) if they knew about it - I am sure they would want him outta there.
Tell your friend to watch it when she goes out the next few times, just in case.

The problem (and perhaps a good thing for my friend) is that he doesn't live there.  I believe he was a visitor.  She reported the incident to management right after it happened and they seemed familiar with the guy.  They said they would call the police if he showed up again.  I really didn't even register the seriousness of the situation in regards to how this could affect my friend, and that really really upsets me, now.  I was only thinking about how he was treating the dog.  I didn't get his plates or anything.  I felt like my head was going to explode I was so angry, and of course I didn't think straight at all.
Should I still call the cops even though I can't even tell them what color his truck was?  I could tell you what color the other two dogs in the back were, though.  *sigh*

You may want to call the non-emergency line to your PD just to see what they recommend. Maybe another person on the complex reported him too and saw the plates, and it would only help their case if someoone else saw this jerk. You know, I don't know about OKC but here in Colorado they don't mess around with animal abuse. and the especially don't think twice about investigating someone who is suspicious of breeding dogs to fight ( hence the scars up and down the dogs back). He's one of the idiots causing so many otherwise would-be-good pits to have to be put down. I say call. If they don't take you seriously, go in person and file a report. The PD cannot tell you your claim is not legitimate enough to be on record.

Lexi, call the non-emergency PD line.  Explain what happened, what you saw regarding the dog, how he threatened you and the fact that the apartment manager has had problems with him.  They will more than likely take a statement, if they won't tell them that you want to report the incident so that it is on file because you felt threatened.  Then call the AC with the report number from the PD and report the SOB for the treatment and condition of the dog.  Tell them that you want to file the report, if I am correct, if you want to file the report they have to at least document it.  Please report it, the poor dog was trying to get away for a reason and you may be able to nip this before the jerk does more damage.  The PD and AC (in my experience) have always been super helpful and will bend over backwards to help someone who is trying to help them.

Wow, people like that are scary.  Who knows what this guy does in private to his dogs when no one is looking.  You know the whole 'Butterfly flapping its wings across the world in a rain forest somewhere' theory, right?  By reporting this guy you never know if you are in fact saving one or more lives sometime in the future by making this guy answer to authority figures.  Maybe this guy doesn't fight his dogs.  Maybe this guy doesn't dump his dogs in the garbage when they are too injured to fight anymore.  Maybe this guy doesn't hurt people or worse with the same casualness he used when he threatened you.  Maybe he doesn't, or maybe he DOES.   Please report him to anyone who will listen to you.  There are monsters in the world.   Jules

    What she said.

Report it to PD and AC. The apartment management can tell you or the police what address/occupant he visits. Most aprtments hold a tenant responsible for the conduct and behavior of visitors. I say do what your heart tells you - I personally would report it till I was hoarse.
Tell your friend how you feel strongly about this, and also that you do not want to cause her grief at the same time. If she saw it also, perhaps you should each file a report?

Lexi sorry for your terrible day.  ITA with everyone's advice, report it to the police and AC.   Thanks for trying to help the dog.

Call the police and AC. He was threatening you. To threaten someone with death is an arrestable crime in some places. Bullies can only thrive when people let them go unabated.

What a horrible man!!!  I totally agree with what everyone said.

Lexi, any update?  You and your friend ok?
