Being Honest about Being Obese

Simply allowing onesself to eat whatever they prefer, whenever, does not constitute an ED. If it was, a lot more people would have them!

I agree - simply eating a little too much, or perhaps a little unhealthily is not an eating disorder.  But compulsively overeating and/or being addicted to food IS.  Wanting to be obese has nothing to do with it - very likely such a person does not want to be obese.

Be careful - you might be trampling over a few folks here, quite unintentionally.

Edit - for the record, *I* think a truly shocking number of people have eating disorders and don't realise it.  I think lots of people on plain old "diets" have an eating disorder, simply because they have an unhealthy attitude towards food and their own body image.  That's just my opinion though.

Yeah, and you still have plenty of breast milk for your baby how, exactly??

Popular myth that you need to eat a certain amount or specific foods to be able to produce milk for your baby.  Collywobble.  Women in 3rd world countries who are STARVING, almost starving to death, can and do still successfully breastfeed their babies.

Shockingly, the babies that die usually do so because they are fed formula milk which is made with contaminated water and/or mixed incorrectly.

OK, sorry, back to topic Big Smile

This absolutely true (although OT Big Smile) ... Mother Nature takes care of the babies.  The mothers may compromise their own health by not being able to eat properly, but the babies will be OK until the mother introduces formula or has to wean the baby to make room for the next one. Nursing makes you hungry for sure, but in this culture most moms can pretty much choose what they're going to eat.

The worst part is that formula companies (Nestle *cough* Nestle) give the mothers FREE samples, which last until their own milk dries up.  The mothers use it because they want to be like us (rich, civilised, etc) in the West.  Then they have to buy it, but because they are so poor and the formula is so expensive, they try to eke it out by using not enough formula in each feed, which makes the child ill.
