Does anybody know how to help a dog with Ball Obsession? My girlfriend has year and a half old boxer who is really obsessed about balls. Every time we go to the dog park, all he does is search out for tennis balls to chew on. He isn't very good at playing fetch as he'd rather sit and chew on the ball. But however will chase a ball down if you throw it. (What I consider fetch is when the dog brings the ball back to you and is ready for you to throw it again) He doesn't get aggressive over the ball, but however will follow the ball wherever you may put it. It is impossible to take all the balls away from him at the park because there are so many of them around. I am just wondering if anybody has any ideas or solutions to fix this problem. Thank you for the help in advance. Also, as to paint a better picture, we got this dog at 4 months of age. He had terrible aggression issues towards people and when it came to food, but was fine with other animals other then when he would eat. We had him both privately and publicly trained so we could work on his aggression issues as well as help him get to know other dogs. Before he was a year old, he never was into balls or played with them when they were around. Right now, he hasn't shown any signs of aggression since he was about 10 months or so towards anybody or anything. He gets along well with my pomeranians. Will let anybody take food from his bowl while he is eating. And any animal walk by without even a flinch. He contracted parvo when he was a little over a year old. Was stuck in the hospital for about a month before he was able to come home healthy. Then about 1 month after that we began to take him to the park where this obsession began. By the way, he is also food obsessive and loves to eat, but he would much rather chew a tennis ball then eat any food or treats. I hope this information helps some more.
