Mindless chatter - Toozday

I'm so frustrated...I woke up this morning with my chest burning every time I breathe.  And I keep letting loose these bark-y coughs that keep making the dogs sit up and look at me quizzically.  I'm just getting fed up because it sticks around for a few days to a week, disappears for a week, and then comes back.  I guess I should go to the doctor, but I bet it will have abated by the time I get an appointment.  I just don't know what to do. Confused

    Frustrated monologue over...

On a brighter note, I'm off today, and am enjoying spending some quality time with the dogs.  I'm thinking I'm going to take them to the dog park, because it's wet and muddy and they can dirty themselves up good before bathtime tonight!

Glenda, I can't wait to hear your great news!

Got an alarming message from an owner of Gracie's littermate.  Both of her dogs became very ill on Nutro products within the last month, and she says she saw a segment on a morning news show that highlighted other owners having sick dogs after feeding Nutro.

Has ANYONE heard about this??  Did anyone else see this on their news?  I know there is some issue w/Nutro price elevation corresponding with smaller bags - but what about making dogs sick!?!?

I am so sick of this pollen.  My allergies are driving me crazy.  My eyes are burning and itching, my nose is stuffed up one minute and running like a river the next, and I keep coughing like there is something stuck in my chest but it won't come up, and to make matters even more fun, I have a terrible headache.  I am going to my mom's in a few minutes and we are going to spend the day shopping.  I need to take some medicine to kill this headache but I cannot find my Tylenol.  It's been one of those days so far!  On a better note, it's a beautiful day outside!!

I made it out of Phoenix just in time.  It's supposed to hit 100 there today.  Of course, we will be in the 90's so I guess it's not really much cooler here.

Jackie, do you have humidity in central TX?  If you do, 100 in Phoenix would feel a lot better than 90 in TX. Smile It's that moist, sticky feeling that wipes you out IMO. I emptied out all my bedroom drawers into plastic grocery bags to get the furniture repainted, and now I'm going through a 30 year accumulation of insane crap and trying to figure out what to keep and what to toss. I've already tossed a lot, but I think there's a lot more to come. This may be one of those weeks when I have to *borrow* some space in my neighbor's trash can. How pathetic is that? You'd think with a 90 gal. can a person wouldn't have to put stuff in someone elses can.

True. The heat really is different here (not in Phoenix, but am in a dry part of AZ). Last time we had to go back to IL, we decided humidity was the devil. That isn't to say that 100 degrees isn't hot here, but it's much less miserable.

Paige - I haven't heard any news on Nutro making dogs sick. You might want to post something in the nutrition section though and see if anything pops up. After the last food recall, this kind of thing makes me very nervous.

I lived in Texas for a few months and having come from mild temps of Southern Calif., I was amazed at how darn hot it got and how bad the humidity was. I can remember showering and getting ready to go somewhere and I'd be sweating before I got out the door. I was living in a pretty cheap apartment and it only had those window AC units and unless you were sitting within 5 feet of it, you were sweating. We were there from May - Aug and driving a truck that didn't have AC Crying.

We've gotten 10" in the last two days. Not funny, Mother Nature. Hmm *grumble*

I don't mean to offend anyone, but why would consumers continue to feed this food if there have been complaints dating back 2 years? Has the company managed to keep the complaints secret?

"Consumers have been complaining for more than two years that their pets have become ill after eating NUTRO products; many have recovered when they were switched to other foods."

Too much wine on an empty stomach...I need to sober up so I can work.  Ack.

Joyce, we are very humid in the Summer here, not as bad as the coastal areas but it's pretty miserable.  Much worse than a dry heat like AZ although my sis says they get a West wind and it feels like the gates of hell have opened in the summer.  We call really hot humid days, two bra days. Sad

LOL Jackie - I can remember having to go pick my husband up from work when we lived in Wichta Falls and I'd put a paper towel under my bra to catch the sweat. Sexy huh? Wink

I used to travel to Tucson and Phoenix regularly for my work and I can remember thinking if I stood outside in the sun for too long, I'd burst into flames. It actually gets like that here in the summer too, but usually doesn't last for too long.

LMAO!!!  I've never heard that one before!

It is gorgeous here today.  It's a nice, breezy 92.

I took off work today.  Some friends are flying in for the funeral tomorrow, & they are staying with us for the night.  I needed to change sheets in the guest rooms, along with doing some other minor things.

I took the dogs down to the lake for a bit.  They are so funny, & even when I'm having a bad day, they can make me smile.

Brinxx has designated herself "security guard" as of late.  She has to do a final patrol of the house before she comes to bed.  Then, instead of sleeping in our bedroom, she has decided that she likes sleeping in the sitting area outside our bedroom door.  She's always been "special" so this isn't shocking.

Two things - if you haven't heard about the complaints, how would you know there were any?  The complaints recently have been about the size of the bags decreasing while the prices increased... but none of the rest of us here on this huge forum seem to have heard of any sicknesses... until today, it seems.

Gracie's littermate is owned by a person who experienced an issue with it very recently, and thus alerted us on another board about it, after the announcement yesterday.

MEANWHILE.... Nutro has a rebuttal that says, while they always cooperate on investigations with agencies like the FDA, they claim they have not been contacted by the FDA about any such complaints to date!!!!  That makes me wonder if they're investigating the suppliers rather than Nutro themselves, or what!>! >  (sorry, I am on a brief break from work, so I ran over to FedEx to use their computers and post this note for interested parties...)  Nutro's rebuttal: http://www.nutroproducts.com/nutro-food-recall-facts.shtml#affairs

That's what I don't get either. I realize this isn't the only dog forum around, but there's enough traffic and educated members that you'd think we'd have heard something in the last 2 years. They also stated something about "most dogs have recovered" - so, does that mean that some dogs have died?  If so, why hasn't the food been pulled? I don't get it but it makes me angry to even think about.
