Whatcha reading?

I asked for it for Christmas and it took me a month to read it.  Everyone's opinion is different of course but I didn't like it as much as I hoped I would.  I love to read so the length wasn't the issue as much as I felt like the author was too wordy.  The actual story could have been told in a much shorter timeframe.

    Oh, BTW, I'm reading

Lordy lordy, mods, could you help me with deleting duplicate posts?

What I was trying to say was I'm currently reading the Dead series by Charlaine Harris.  They're the Sookie Stackhouse novels that have been turned into the True Blood series on HBO.  They're great!  I didn't really think I was a fan of horror books or the whole silly vampire book craze but these have changed my mind.

Amy, a month or so ago, I finally read Alice Sebold's "Lucky".  Was excellent, though the ending seemed a bit abrupt to me.

"Hannibal Rising" for whomever mentioned it - I did not like the book at all.  "Silence of the Lambs" was a quick read, but I dragged my way through the other.

The last book I finished was The Memory Keepers Daughter. It was okay but a little slow for my taste. .

The Memory Keepers Daughter is going to be on Lifetime this Saturday - either late afternoon or early evening.  I thought the book moved a  bit slowly too, but the movie is actually not bad.

ok dont yell at me LOL, Cesar Milan's 'member of the family' and 'the gardeners A-Z guide to growing organic food'

they're both fantasic, the garden book is amazing, it's filled in so many holes - alot of books have alot of info missing, like companion planting!

also tells you what plants hate to be planted next to.

Just finished the Twilight saga, bad me I saw the film first LOL.

Is that the one about the teenage girl in love with a wussy vampire?  What's it like?  So far I have not been inclined to pick it up....  Normally vampire tales are right up my street (I love Anne Rice!) but only if they are well done.... and I haven't been tempted by this one yet.

Much, much better than I expected.  I steered clear of it fearing it was a little too "teenage", until a friend of mine - a maths teacher and all-round sensible woman LOL - raved about the series.  At that point I consented to watching the DVD which had just come out, and enjoyed that enough to want to read the books.

They're not going to win the Booker Prize but still enjoyable.

Maybe I'll borrow it from my niece.... who is NOT an all round sensible sort OR a maths teacher... and she also raves about it.  Tongue Tied

I held off reading them for the same reason.  They were enjoyable, although I thought it could have used more action and less of her mooning over her vampire love.  Maybe I'm just not romantic enough to appreciate those long, long, long segments of Edward adoration. :)

ETA: was his name Edward??  Suffering from CRS. :)

    Yes.  LOL.

And I do sort of agree with you, although I found the fourth book a trifle weird there was a degree less of the Edward/Bella stuff and a bit more action.  Still, it's a love story and intended as such, so the mushiness didn't put me off.  Then again, I am a romantic.  LOL.

I love, love, love Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim. I just saw David Sedaris two days ago, actually.

David Sedaris cracks me up. Me Talk Pretty One Day had me laughing out loud.

I just finished Melancholy Baby (Sunny Randall series) by Robert B. Parker.  Those are fun books about a woman private detective and the crimes she solves.  I finished that one on the plane yesterday on the way to the Bay Area.

I loved Lovely Bones and The Green Mile (and that movie).  I heard that Lovely Bones is coming out on film...is it the same story?

I also loved Anne Rice's series about the Mayfair witches.  Not crazy about her vampire books, for some reason...but loved the witches.

Whats the name of that book about the daughter who was thrown into the foster home system after her mother commited murder of her boyfriend.  A film was made with Michelle Pfeifer as the mother...its driving me crazy, I can't think of the name. Robyn Penn was a crazy religious foster mom; as well as Renee Zellweger also a foster mom...but committed suicide.  Loved that book and the movie.  Argh, its driving me nuts...

That was "White Oleander".  I never watched the movie, but the book was excellent.

I read a couple weeks ago the Twilight series and it was lots of fun. Now I'm reading the Earth's Children series Smile and so far (I'm in the second book) I love the series.
