Whatcha reading?

    Whatcha reading?

Well, I spent a little too much in the bookstore today, but I couldn't help it. I hadn't been there in a long time, and I had too much temptation to give into. If there's a series I want, I usually order it online for significantly cheaper, but I was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and I tore through Books-a-Million in no time.

I bought the two sequels to Gone with the Wind, The Sicilian, and the Hannibal Lecter series (which I've read many years ago but gave away). I'm almost done with Gone with the Wind, but I don't know what I'm going to tackle next. Last week, I read Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Piccoult. That was the first book I've read by her, and I hated at first because it was too jumpy. I got used to it by the end, though.

    So, whatcha reading?

I know about book stores and just how seductive they are. lol

I'm reading John Grisham's "The Appeal" and also "Mind of the Raven" by Bernd Heinrich.  Really fascinating book about ravens, written by a man who has been observing them for years.  They aren't called wolf birds for nothing.

I'm seriously considering sitting down and reading The Learners by Chipp Kidd. It's the sequel to The Cheese Monkeys, which is hilarious and I highly recommend it. I've been reading Green Mile for three years now, I always get distracted and have to start over (I even have two copies of it! The serial and complete). The only other "for fun" book I have here is Lost Souls by Poppy Z. Brite, and while she's a good writer, her topic matter is not exactly my cup of tea (gay vampires).

How is the Hannibal Lector series? I have them, and am going to read them just as soon as I finish reading the books that don't belong to me.

Currently, I'm reading And the Sea Will Tell.  It's a true crime novel.  Pretty interesting so far.  It's off a recommendation of a friend.

Let me know if the Gone with the Wind sequels are any good.  I enjoyed reading it.

I am reading What is the What (about one of the Lost Boys, Sudanese refugees) and I am listening to John Grisham's A Time To Kill (unabridged).  In bed I like to listen to books on my mp3 player.  I have arthritis in my wrist so I hate having to hold a large, heavy hardcover book, and I just love being read to.  Next I will probably listen to Angela's Ashes b/c I never read it.

How is the Hannibal Lector series?

I haven't read Hannibal Rising, although the movie sucked. I read the other Hannibal stories so long ago that I do remember things being different from the movies, but I honestly can't remember what they are.

I haven't read Green Mile, but I'd like to. The worst movie-adapted-from-abook I've ever read was Forrest Gump. Forrest in the movie is lovable. Forrest in the book is just a jerk.

I tend to avoid Stephen King adapted to film... because it is predominantly bad, especially if Stephen King had any say it in. But I love the movie of Green Mile, though I've only read the first half, and seen the second half.

I've heard the the Hannibal book series really capitalizes on the relationship between Hannibal and Clarice. (People always get creeped out when I say that the movie Hannibal gives me the warm fuzzies...)

    Who wrote Forrest Gump?

Angela's Ashes is by... Frank somebody? He also wrote Teacher Man? I've been interesting it reading his books, but haven't found time yet.

Frank McCourt. Smile The following  book is 'Tis ... good but not as good as Angela's Ashes.  I just got "Heart and Soul" by Maeve Binchy but I haven't had a chance to start it yet.   I really like her books and I haven't read anything by her for a long time.

The Husband by Dean Koontz. It's really good so far!

I just 'read' and summarized 42 children's books, in the last 48 hours. I don't want to read again for a solid week.

When I do manage to read something that doesn't rhyme or isn't illustrated, I will let you know ;)

Harlen Coben's "Long Lost".  It's great - like all his books.

Edgar Sawtelle..... from Oprah's book club and on the New York Times Best Sellers list. I don't have a lot of time to read, so it's taking me a while. It's about a mute boy growing up in a family that breeds dogs. Only on the 3rd chapter......Has anyone else read this book???

I just finished "Soiled Doves"--about prostitutes in the Old West and "I Was a Teenage Professional Wrestler"--really! He put himself through art school while wrestling.  How's that for doing it the HARD way?

Tonight, I am skimming through "World War II: An Interactive Package of Image and Text". I got this at our last book sale and PRAYED someone else wouldn't buy it before I got to it.  I coveted this book from the day it came in in a donation box! I also have a book on tehe Thirties I will skim as well.

I thought the green mile was a good book. I JUST finished Alice Sebold's "The Lovely Bones" the other day, and I'm almost done with David Sedaris' "Dress your family in courduroy and denim". Next on my list...maybe "The rapture of Canaan" I read it years ago, but it has resurfaced.

I read Edgar Sawtelle when it first came out.  It is a big book, isn't it?
