Mindless chatter, happy weekend!

Caline, we're sending your DH "get well soon" vibes.  I hope that the move goes smoothly for you!

I am starting to worry about leaving Bev for the week.  Last time we left him, he ran into a tree head on.  Then we were overloaded with all of his wonderful health issues.  I'm starting to do the whole "what if something goes wrong?" thing, even though I know that he will be in the best possible hands.

Crossed body parts here, Glenda! I'm just getting my computer back.  It has  been sitting in the middle of the floor with a tarp over it so ceiling crap wouldn't fall in it. For some reason, these messes don't stay in the rooms they started in.  They just sort of spread out everywhere and take over the whole house.

Hey Amanda, think positive! I know is hard but you will save lots of energy and Bevo will feel you are leaving him with good spirit and that everything is and will be ok. ((HUGS))

Glenda: I have everything crossed here for you and your family, even Thor has his paws crossed... I'm going to send you my best vibes Smile

    • Gold Top Dog

I can't sleep so I thought I better see what everyone has been up to around here.   Glenda, everything possible crossed and I am sending you all the strongest "get that job" vibes for your DH.  One year in the RV is enough character building for anyone!   Amanda, I know I would worry too about Bevo but he will be fine. Calinisima, good luck with your move!  I hope your knee holds up.  Sending you get moved smooth vibes!

DH and I had such a silly argument yesterday.  About how to clean the dog's muddy paws.  LOL  The dog's said, "hey we don't care how you do it, just get 'er done and let us in the house!"  Our rain is over for now.  We need more but are grateful for what we got.  I am going to the nursery today for potting soil and a few plants.  It's supposed to be a nice sunny day, perfect for puttering in the yard.  Then a nice nap is in my future. :)

    • Gold Top Dog

Good luck vibes to Glenda and Caline!

Today is my family's St. Patrick's Day party.  We're almost 100% Irish, so St. Patty's Day is always a BIG deal in my house.  There will be corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, soda bread, etc. Party!!!

    • Gold Top Dog

Hey, you don't HAVE to be Irish to be Irish on St Patricks Day!  I've got the corned beef, the baby redskinned taters and the cabbage all waiting for a pot!  And the heritage I know about is Scottish.  But, hmmmmm, Irish soda bread sounds like something I might wanna add as well.

Darn, sleeping is difficult when you are trying not to get your hopes up, trying not to get excited!  Of course it didn't help that Tyler decided to stretch out right where my feet belonged and not give me anyplace to put the bottom half of my very long legs......

The more the merrier!  You definitely don't have to be Irish to enjoy St. Patty's Day. Smile  And I would add the soda bread, it's a great addition.

Each year, we also find ways to bring food that's not traditionally Irish, but is green.  This year I'm bringing green deviled eggs, yum!

    • Gold Top Dog

     What's soda bread?

Guess I will do something special for Lillie and Fynn since their Irish. Lol.

So I did something I said I would never ever do. I applied for a job at McDonalds. I figured with the way things are these days any job is better than none. I dont have to work but I would feel better if I was spending my own money on entering dog shows, gas, food, hotels, and all the good stuff they sell at dogs shows. Hopefully I get the job! It'll only be 3 days a week but at 7.50 an hour and only 10 minutes away from home it's not gonna be too horrible. I can spend JJ's hard earned money all I want but it's just not the same as earning it yourself.

DW has been getting her hours cut where she works, in the baby dept of a national dept store. Her dept by itself earns over $1,000 a day, many times averaging $5k and they had a $13k day a few weeks ago. That is, her dept is carrying the store. But our president keeps talking about how crappy the economy is and Wall Street takes a dive every time he does (that's actually a proven fact on one of the news shows) so companies start cutting back hours and laying off people. Why? Because the pres keeps saying that it sucks. He might try shutting up or saying something positive for a change. Anyway, the yahoos who want to act like other businessmen by cutting back keep doing so, even though people keep having babies and spending money like crazy. So, she's going to apply at a grocery store where she can get 32 hours a week. Part of the other company's move is to follow the example of the acting head of companies like Home Depot. They put everyone on part-time so they don't have to pay benefits and give raises. It has nothing to do with a sluggish economy and has everything to do with maximizing profits on paper.

As for the economy, we had higher unemployment during Carter, and 30 % during the Great Depression. During the Carter years, we had double digit inflation and interest rates. So, as bad as the economy seems now, it is not the worst, regardless of what the president says.

OTOH, I hope he takes away the tax credit in NAFTA. If a company wants to go overseas and take our jobs away, fine, but let's not pay them to do it. Keep the jobs here. The money is out there, we just need to get it moving. Speaking of which, I know I have painted Obama and democracts as socialists but really, they don't have the guts to go all the way with it. What happens with the bail-out? They give it to companies, as a loan that has to be paid back, raising the price of everything and causing more inflation. What they should have done is trust the american citizen by giving out the money they were going to give, anyway, in vouchers to buy new cars and houses. This would have put cash back into the economy and created jobs that are necessary to make and sell cars and houses, or whatever the voucher gets spent on. But no, that would be giving control to the american people and I don't think either party has the guts. What is it with tax rebate checks? Why not just give us a tax holiday? Instead of taking the money just to give it back to us, let us keep it when we had it the first time?

    Off the soapbox.

I think Shadow has a new girlfriend. The people that live behind us seem to have a revolving door of pets. I don't know if they foster or not. Their boy was the one that used to throw stuff at Shadow. He's gotten older and found other things to get interested than just pestering my dog. Anyway, they had a Chi with a broken leg. Now, they have a female Doberman Pincher and Shadow and she have been flirting along the fence for two days, now.

    • Gold Top Dog

    More stuff.

The Dobie looks to be 1 year old or less. They like running along the fence and she is a sweetheart, offering sniffs. Shadow can't help his loud bark, even when it's not a mean bark but more like social conversation. Forget about having an inside voice right now. She has cropped ears and a docked tail, excellent coloration and form and a temperment to die for. She's a lover, not a fighter. It won't be long until she can make Shadow use his inside voice. I have a theory, The female of any species is the "dominant" one, so to speak.

I haven't posted much here in a while but I still check in, now and then. I know I explained it before and I don't expect people to understand and that's okay. I have been a fan of Guns and Roses since the beginning and I really like the new album, Chinese Democracy. So much, that I got on a GnR forum and have been busy hurting feelings and ticking off young'ns over there. There are some so young they didn't know AC/DC had another singer before Brian Johnson. Anyway, the album has affected me and I needed a place to express it. Ticking off others was just a bonus.Wink

They have a more lax mod of language and content and there are some exchanges that can make this place look like a tea party. Welcome to the jungle. It's not just a song, it's a way of life.

Guns and Roses contains only one original member, the founder of the band, lead vocalist W. Axl Rose. The first to leave the band was Steven Adler, the drummer. He was fired because his heroin addiction was interfering with the ability to complete the work required. He was replaced by Matt Sorum, from the Cult. Izzy Stradlin, rhythm guitar, Rose's longest and oldest friend from Lafayette, IN, left next. Drugs took their toll and sobriety was at odds with the large consumption of other members. After Use your Illusions I and II, they reach a creative impasse. The music you hear on those last albums and Chinese Democracy was the next logical direction and Slash wasn't into that. Slash, the lead guitarist left. He was the one most often saying that Axl is a control freak but, in actuality, he want to control the output of the band just as much. But Axl Rose owns the name Guns and Roses and it is his band.

Duffy McKagan was the last classic line-up member to leave. He's more of a punk musician. And has a punk band called Loaded. Later, Slash, McKagan, and Sorum formed Velvet Revolver, which is really Slash's band but they are having a hard time holding on to a singer. I think it was a mistake to bring on Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots. They had an open call for singers and I email the website and never received a reply as to submission format, etc.

Chinese Democracy is the collaborative effort of a number of musicians. It is also an example of everything that could go wrong during the production of an album and perservering and completing it, anyway. From arranging other musician's schedules to fending off frivilous and unsuccessful lawsuits from Slash and Steven Adler. Some of you have seen Steven Adler on the recent season of "Sober House." Yes, that is what Rose had to put up with for years on end. Of the members, Rose is the only one to not abuse, other than having an occasional drink or a cigar once in a while. He is a singer.

And I identify with that. I also sing. In fact, I think I sing better than I play guitar, even though I have played guitar longer. The voice is part of the body and you have to take care of the instrument. There's an old saying. Everyone but the singer gets to party. Rose is only about 1.5 ot almost 2 years older than me. He is 47 this year and is still hitting high C. I, too, can do the same. I will be 45 on Thursday. You can't maintain that range and power if you abuse the body. As far as being a control freak, he got that label because he expected people to show up sober enough to record or play and not be so drunk they found the stage by accident.

    W. Axl Rose was raised as Bill Bailey by his mother and adoptive step-father. He later found out his real father's name was Rose and change his name to William Rose and later, to W. Axl Rose. During regression therapy, he came to understand that he had been sexually abused by his natural father. And emotionally and physically abused by his step-father, meanwhile having to pretend everything is okay while he was in church choir. Now, he has little use for white-washing. When someone asks what he thinks of his former bandmates, he gives his unvarnished opinion. He has also learned that the best way to handle a dsyfunctional relationship is to not continue it. Therefore, there will be no reunion of the "original" line-up. And truth be known, he actually started the band with Izzy Stradlin and Tracii Guns of LA Guns, hence "Guns and Roses."

Plans for a tour are still on-going and talk of another album persist. Chinese Democracy was released through Universal Records with Interscope Mgmt. But Interscope has failed greatly. Rather than spend more time on a $13 million album suing Interscope for breach of contract, GnR mgmt did an end run and got an exclusive distribution deal with Best Buy. US slaes are slow but the band is huge in Europe, South America, and Scandinavia. The debut album, Appetite for Destruction, was released in 1987, didn't start moving until 1988 and was monstrous huge by 1989, two years later. I expect Chinese Democracy, a landmark album in its own right, will do the same.

"Prostitute" ( as in selling out your principles) from the album, Chinese Democracy, by Guns and Roses.

ETA: Most of the piano playing on this album is Rose. One other long time member remains in the band, Dizzy Reed and he handled most of the orchestration and symphonic orchestra bits, from strings for accents to the symphonic stretch at the end of this song.

Gee.  Do you think that might because the economy is crappy and it does suck?  We just have to get used to having a president with enough upstairs to realize there is a big problem and who doesn't believe in sugar coating everything to make us feel good.  I've heard him say that we can turn things around but it will take all of us working together.  That's pretty positive, eh?

Ummm, as part of a family that has had NO full time work in 18 months......yeah, I agree that the economy sucks.  The situation in MI is really dire.  Lots and lots of the manufacturing plants that are in this part of the state are auto industry related and they are closing in droves.  The unemployment rate in this state at least is staggering, and the state unemployment fund has been stone cold broke for months, and using federal funds to pay ui...which of couse has to be paid back sooner or later.

And why the heck should the government give ANY company bail out money??  In most cases the companies are floundering because MANAGEMENT is given such cushy packages, not the workers.

Tax rebates?  What's up with that?  Are we getting another one?  If so, when, how much?  Inquiring minds and all that......

First, need to say that I'm glad I found out that ron is still here, even if I don't agree with him politically or get gaga over G&R.  See, you really can like someone a lot without always agreeing with him LOL.

I think that the blame for our economy lies with greed, so whether it's politicians, company execs, or the man in the street, it's time we started to realize that our well being is interconnected, and be a bit less inclined to say screw the other guy.  Of course, human nature being what it is, that isn't likely to happen...

Even when W was telling us the economy was strong, I was doubting it, but too bad I didn't act on my hunch - now I will have to work until I am 95 just to make up the diff I lost in the market.  The only saving grace is that many of the greedy, smug b%^*$#@ are in the same boat now.

BTW, does anyone beside me else see the humor (not that what he did was funny *at all*) in Madoff's name???  I mean, he "made off" with a lot of other people's money.  Can't believe I haven't heard any commentator comment on the irony of that moniker.

I'm not trying to bust Obama's chops so much as I would like him to know that his words have an effect. Yeah, the economy is hurting and sure, give him some brownies points for noticing. Now, he can do a lot by injecting enthusiasm instead of painting a dire picture. As for him telling people they shouldn't buy what they want, that hurts the economy, too. If you make widgets, you want people buying widgets. When people buy your widgets, you have more money to buy stuff from other people. You have more money that can be taxed and given out in a socialistic manner. I know you are a socialist as you have admitted as much and I have been dealing with a forum of socialists. The funny thing, the ones most for socialism are americans who read about it. The people from countries that are socialist to some degree aren't that hot about it. Anyway, the best way to collect taxes to give out in socialist programs is to have people working and paying taxes into the socialist system and the best way to do that is quit dissing the economy and do things that stimulate it. You can't just create money by saying abracadabra or practicing your stern father look.

I'm on call this weekend, have been since Thursday (my on call weekday). We rotate weekends with another animal hospital as to which doctors actual take emergencies, and this is their weekend, but I still have to anwer the tech phone, answer questions, etc. Good clients still come to our clinic, so I've had two emergencies, both which ended sadly.

I am ready to hand over the phone tomorrow...people who call me at 11:30 at night with no intentions of having their very sick pets seen by a vet and who aren't even calling for advice sadden me...and make me tired the next day.

Also, irresponsible breeders who call with unnecessary Oops situations anger me as well.
