Cathy, I have read that about how much food CA grows too.  Here in Texas we are the largest cattle producer and we are in an extreme drought in much of the state.  Wow, prices are already so high at the grocery store. Guess I will be raising chickens and growing my own veggies.  Wish my yard were bigger than a postage stamp. LOL

    .

i think on a postage stamp you could easily have two chickens, they'd produce plenty of eggs. I had eggs coming out of my ears when I had 20 chickens, thankfully i'm down to 7, so I dont have to scramble ( hehe) to sell excess eggs.

Well all this rain better help this drought situation. I wish i had some rain barrels cuz they'd all be full by now & I'd have plenty o water for the summer.

Just got done with a job programming some remotes, happy to be off the road!!  too much water on the road & i hate driving the company truck, its the worst car to drive in bad weather.

Man, me too. It has been raining like crazy for a couple hours now. It's warm too so this might not help the snow pack much but it should be filling up the reservoirs. I think I heard that we're at 75% of normal now, so that's way better than a couple weeks ago - yay.

I'd love to plant a garden and I have the perfect spot for it on the side of the house. It's covered with wood from a patio cover we took down but maybe I can finally talk DH into having it hauled away this spring. It is the side that Sassy hangs out the most on when we're gone, so I'm not sure the veggies would survive for long.

I just emailed captiol drum to see how much barrels are, I've always wanted to do a water reclamation system, I guess this would be the year to do it! i'm guessing at the most they'll be $20/barrel. I've always like the barrel dog houses too. might have to make some of those! LOL

ooh what kind of wood? is it painted? i'm always looking for more firewood :)

    wow it's coming down now!

I'd say if you couldn't keep Sassy out of the area it probably wouldn't be good. Dogs dont care that you just planted seedlings, or any plant for that matter lol.

I was watching the news last night about the statewide drought here and they said that the farmland that runs almost the entire length of the state provides 1/4 of the food for the U.S. Doesn't that seem extremely high? If that's true and we don't get some wet relief soon, it's just going to add to an already dismal economic picture. Sad

Hmm.  If you're just measuring from the OR border to the Mexican border - straight down and not along the coast - CA is almost 1,000  miles long.  So maybe we do. We never get enough rain to farm without heavy irrigation, but I can't remember where the irrigation water comes from.  I thought I remembered a long time ago hearing that we got a lot of water from the Colorado River, but I'm a little hazy on that.

Unfortunately, it is all painted. We've used a little for outside fires but not for inside. It came from a pergola that was there when we bought the house. It was really pretty but verrrryyyy unstable. We don't even use our fireplace anymore cause it made the house really smoky for days afterwards. I'd like to get ceramic logs instead but I doubt it's a very efficient way to heat the house. Nice for ambience but not much else.

off to start diggin a trench for a french drain. theres water pooling under my house from all this rain fall. bleh, the joys of home ownership :)

i can literally see it draining from about 100 or so feet down the street, then down my driveway right to my 'problem' area, which basically is a moat! its been needing a french drain for a long time, but this rain has made is WAY worse.

I was just injured by doing the laundry. I was taking my sister's stuff out of the dryer so I could put my first load in the dryer and second in the wash. In the middle of doing this, all of a sudden, I got a horrible pain in my neck. I couldn't move it for a few minutes. Luckily, I had prescription ibuprofen. My neck and shoulder still hurt a little bit.

So I'm finally back on line. Lol.  Although I think I'm catching a cold.. Scoe is sick and I've been sneezing like mad today. *sigh* I hope not. I'm helping out with private lessons agains tomorrow. Please be allergies! Lol

Alex and I had a date night last night. We got a 2l thing of ice cream and the three orginial Star Wars movies and watched them.  We've been working through our problems and it's getting better.

Sandy still hasn't come in to season and I'm getting tired of waiting. Lol.
