Where did the weekend go??? Oh yeah, I forgot. It got covered in snow. We are sure paying for that little warm spell we had, but, at least because of the warm spell, some of the snow had left and the mounds are no where near as bad as they would have been. Still.......it's time for spring.
Tomorrow and Wednesday are supposed to be in the mid 30's which will be a nice change, then down into the teens again, and snow or snow showers EVERY single day for the next week.
the kids are once again making sure I get my morning excercise. Up and down, up and down, up and down. Rotten things. They tag team so that I have to get up and leave the computer and while I'm gone someone will steal something on the computer desk! Nothing left to steal now, but they are still trying. And the cats are back in the bathroom throwing their bowls at the walls. It is NOT time for breakfast yet. We have a nice little morning routine that they apparently do not think is so nice now.
Random musing for cat people......folks tell me that they HAVE to leave food down all the time for their cats, and they also tell me with multiple cats its impossible for them to control intake because ONE cat will steal everyone elses food. This I don't quite understand. My cats are in a rather small area, but there is still a place for everyones bowl and no one steals from another bowl. Scamper USED to eat everything, but Gypsy quickly learned that she best not be persnickity and pokey or she'd go without. Tess, coming from a foster situation with almost 20 other cats, and heaven knows how many dogs, eats as soon as she's fed. We have a schedule and a routine, loose as it is, and they get their canned in the morning, along with a quarter cup of dry each, and then the same amount of dry in the evening. IF there happens to be food left in a bowl, it goes back in the bin so they get the precise amount they are supposed to have. I don't pick up the cats bowls like I would the dogs, and sometimes there is food left, but, we're talking 1/4 cup per cat per meal, so not a ton of food.
My "roomie" has two cats. The male is getting a bit chunky. The female clearly requires less food as she is smaller and doesn't eat much. She has ROOMS to use to separate them, but she dumps huge amounts of food in the bowls and leaves them out for days on end. That doesn't make sense to me. Why give them MORE than they need, and all in one bowl so that they have to take turns? And, maybe I'm really wierd, but the wet food I do NOT just clump on a plate. They all have their own bowls, and I smush the food and if it's been in the fridge overnght, I take it out about 30 minutes before feeding time and let it warm a bit, and then add a few drops of warm water before I smush it. HER cats tend to leave the unappealing lumps of cold food. Mine eat every last bit.
So? Have I somehow magically trained my cats to eat when they are fed? To eat their OWN food and no one elses? And if I did it without even trying, couldn't other folks do the same? I mean, gosh, it's no healthier for a CAT to be over weight than it is for a dog.........
OK, that's my random musing for the morning......
