Thanks, all :) he got a good night's sleep and he seems no worse for wear. I think he agrees - no more baths!!

Oh Meg poor Pirate and poor you!

We definitely agree to skip baths and just get the ice cream Big Smile

Poor Li'l Mohawk Man.  He needs a picket sign that says "NO MORE BATHS!"  Think he's trying to tell you something.  JK...I know those seizures are scary.

Poor Pi-man. I'm glad you're doing better today.

The positive part of this is he's doing this **now** BEFORE you go back up to Reddick Friday to see Dr. Xie.

Much better than waiting until after you got home!  It will be interesting to see what his thots are (as well as Dr. Chrisman and Dr. Clemmons).  Those two are gonna be thrilled with the Pot. Bromide levels -- and remember -- those levels ARE down which likely makes him a little more vulnerable, so I'd say the herbs are actually working pretty darned well considering how low the KB levels are!  So an adjustment might be in order.  and .... generally what Dr. Xie said about 'spring' too -- leaves are popping out

If he's going back up to the clinic, maybe take a bottle of the shampoo just in case they see something in it that might be a trigger?

I'm glad he feels better.  That must have been terrifying.

I was around when my mother's yorkie had a seizure, and it left me pretty shaken.  She has since grown out of them, but for some time during her youth, epilepsy was suspected.  I hope Pirate's continue to decrease in frequency as well.

Willow is also in agreement with skipping the bath and just going right for the ice cream!

He knows just when we're heading up to Reddick, doesn't he? :) It's been three different shampoos, the three times he's had a bath here, Cita, or else I'd think it was something in the specific shampoo too. I think it's either the 'scent'edness of them or just the stress or the lighting in there or...who knows. 'What caused my dog's seizure?' is a fun mind game I play at 2am, LOL.

I'm definitely going to set up an appointment for three weeks from Friday with Dr. D (our holistic vet locally). No use in trying to stretch it out.

Oh, Pi-Guy!  You poor peanut.  Is it possible he's gotten a smidge of water into his ear and that is throwing off his equilibrium and sending him off on these seizures?  We had a Dobe in rescue w/a particular type of seizure that nobody could quite pin-point the cause, but we could generally tell that if she was upset/irritated enough, it was about a 60% chance that she'd start bobbing.  Perhaps you're right that the "anxiety" or "excitement" of the bath is all it took? Poor Megan and Pirate.... big hugs!!

Ooo, that's a good idea - maybe next time I'll put cotton in his ears. Thanks!! I never would have thought of that.

Megan, I'm so sorry to read this.  My computer at home is out for repair right now so I didn't see it sooner.

If you put cotton in Pirate's ears, put some plain Vaseline on the ball first - then the water won't absorb into the cotton ball and leave him with wet inside his ears.  My son was prone to ear infections as a child and that is a trick the pediatrician told me.  Feels icky at first, but it works.

I'm glad the valium works for Pirate.  It does nothing but agitate Bear and he spends a lot of post-ictal time pacing.  At least Pirate is small - I can't imagine Bear seizing in the car.  I'd have to pull over.  Plus he always loses control of his bladder, so there is always that mess of urine to clean up besides all the slobber.

((((Hugs)))) for you and prayers for no more seizures for Pirate.

Thankfully - (and I am SO SO thankful) Pirate's seizures aren't like full-blown grand mal seizures. He's awake the whole time, he just loses muscle control and shivers, kind of like when a dog is scared or cold. The difference being that he'll keep shaking no matter what if it's a seizure, and he obviously can't walk or stand. He was seizing and trying to eat the ice cream cone!! LOL. He doesn't pee or drool, either. The valium usually puts him into lala laaaaaand :)

Thanks for the Vaseline tip :) I hope Bear's doing OK?

Yeah, so far Bear has been seizure-free since January 4th.  We're working on an elimination diet right now, so it is possible some of the seizure activity is food allergy related.

I'm glad Pirate is not having Grand Mal seizures.  From what you describe, his are similar to the few Shari had as well as the childhood dog I had that also had them occasionally.  They are still scary but more seem a little more manageable, though Pirate seems to have them more frequently, which of course can be a concern.  Sounds like you've got a good veterinary team, plus Callie right nearby.  It helps to have that support.
