Pirate had a seizure in Petco (for pete's sake...)

    Pirate had a seizure in Petco (for pete's sake...)

    I think I would pay a million dollars if he never had another seizure.

    I bathed Pirate at work today at the end of my shift - for SOME reason I think something about bathing him (the shampoo, the stress, who knows) is triggering seizures since the last two he's had have been after baths, and he had one in Petco after we left work today. Thankfully that seizure was short, but as we were pulling through the McDonald's drive thru (he needed a vanilla ice cream cone :) it helps with the post-ictal period, I swear!) he had another one. I gave him his rectal valium and we drove home. Try driving on the interstate with a high dog, who is now STARVING and wobbling around the passenger seat. BF had to carry him inside when we got home, and I tried to have him relax on the bed with me but he kept trying to jump off, so I just locked him in his crate and he's sleeping it off.

    I hate these dang seizures.

     Poor Pirate; I hope you figure out what it is about bathing him that causes them; {{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

    Poor Pirate and poor you. I can't imagine how stressful that must be. I'm pretty sure that Pirate would want you to skip the baths and go straight for the ice cream from now on ;)

    Oh no, poor Pirate!  I know how hard it can be to get seizures under control.  I hope he is feeling better now, give him a gentle rubbin' for me, please.  Hugs.

     I'm convinced it's something IN the shampoo.  I've got a bottle of Dr. Bronners sitting right here that is a new one (no scent at all -- just "plain';).  But even just take a small bottle of the stuff you use at home and then bathe him at work.  That's going to at least narrow down the 'chemical' part of it.

    Another thing I didn't think of before -- do you dry him with the dryer there?  Is he *around* the dryer when he's not being bathed?  Could certainly be a frequency in that which could set him up for a seizure.

    Aww poor pirate. How stressful! He's one of my fav little dogs on idog. I hope you figure out what is causing it.

    Nah, he doesn't get blow-dried (he's scared of it, of course). I am going to try my OWN shampoo next time for sure...I might just bathe him at home from now on.

    Thanks, all :) Pirate is in his 'happy place' now - all zoned out, LOL.
