Poor Aspen - (Grady you know where) - HUGE Update - Page 3

I know I should be researching this but right now I need to just let people know or something.  Sorry it's been a REALLY long day so bear with me.  Last Sunday Aspen & Grady were kind of messing around in the back yard & Aspen pulled up lame on his left rear leg.  I thought that he just strained something because he's a pillow tumor.  Ya know, you don't use it, you lose it & all that rot.  Well he has been going between running on it just fine to limping to hlding his leg up completely.  Both DH & I thought he was being a drama queen because if we scolded him he'd look sad & hold his leg up in the air.  Well, he was still limping today & there was no change so I called & got an appointment with Dr. S for this afternoon.  The good news is that his ACL is still intact & strong.  The bad news is that his patella is toast.  Dr. S, could get it to move back into it's proper position but the patella would flop right back out.

    I just give up.

Oh Annie, poor Aspen.  Don't beat yourself up, it's not always easy to tell if they're hurting when half the time they're not acting like it.  I'm sending good vibes to you and Aspen.

Such things happen ... don't kick yourself.  Sometimes it is SO HARD to tell.

I know you know I just saw this on FB, but I wanted to let you know how sorry I am about Aspen's bum knee.  Is he a candidate for surgical repair - it sounds from your description that he's a grade 5?

Aww, I'm sorry for both you and Aspen.  It is never easy when a pet comes up lame, and the current economy isn't making the financial side any easier.

Don't kick yourself for waiting so long.  Patella problems in the little dogs can be hard to judge sometimes because they will seem to be alright when the petalla pops back into place, but then suddenly go lame when it slips again.  I see it a lot at the dog park with the little ones.  You'll see a puppers go streaking across the field only to all of a sudden start limping untill they can pop their petalla back in place and then they go skipping off again.

The fact is you did take him in when it countined to be a problem.  Keep us updated on what you decide to have done.  I hope Aspen starts to feel better soon.

Oh Annie I am sooooo sorry - sending my best vibes your way!

Oh I hope Aspen is better soon! It's so hard to know when something is hurting them w/o them being able to tell us. Atleast you took him to see the doc and hopefully all will be well soon. I know when Lily was hit by a car, she acted like she was fine but I still took her to the vet anyway. She had a small sprain and was prescribed some anti inflammatory and was better before I knew it. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut and you did! Now you know the problem, let's hope it can be fixed soon!

Annie, I'm so sorry Aspen is hurt. I saved this bookmark back when Brenda was still on the board. I remember her having a brace made for patella problems. Maybe something like that would help Aspen (even if he is facing surgery). http://www.k-9orthotics.com/ Prayers for you all.

Annie, you can't give up.  I know that Aspen's problems as of late are very frustrating, but you've just gotta keep plugging along.  Trust me on this one, it will get better.

A brace would probably be a really good idea, though you would have to seriously consider whether or not it will put pressure on Aspen's back.  If it is going to aggravate his disc, then it wouldn't be worth it.

Send kisses to all three of the furkids for me, Annie.

Poor little guy! I remember back when you got/rescued Aspen, I remember where he came from. And don't you think those people probably  bought him from a pet store? I think it's likely...so part of what you are dealing with is the whole puppymill health stuff. I'm soooo sorry for the little guy and it's not your fault!! It's not anyone's fault except the bad breeder!!

I hope you can do a brace with him and give him some relief and please keep us posted! HUGS!!!
