Dog Fights on TV?

(emphasis added by me) But it should be.

Who gets to decide who is a BYBer? We're already on a slippery slope and asking to have breeding laws passed that only law abiding people will follow won't help.

they shouldn't show the actual dog fights on TV news. They should show the "bait dogs" with their mouths duct-taped shut being horribly slaughtered-- and they should mention that often these are people's pets stolen out of their yards. They should show the losers of the fights torn into bloody ribbons. They should show how the dogs live in squalor on short, very heavy chains. And how sweet most pitbulls are towards their human tormenters.

Any law passed, is usually followed by law abiding people. Are you suggesting, that for that reason, we shouldn't pass any new laws about anything?   [&:]

Simple question. WHO gets to decide who is a BYBer and who isn't.

I was shocked and disgusted when i saw the clips and had to turn it off.  I've heard about it but have never really seen it.  Gut wrenching, that this goes on.

Do you think this county is leaning toward the just prosecution of celebrities, athletes, etc.

I thought the jail term for Miss Hilton was a good start.

It seems to be people are becoming intolerant of special treatment for these criminals.

People need to let their outrage be known.  What can we do?

    yeah really...
back yard breeding, front yard breeding, artificial insimination, out in the streets.... it has to do with integrity and intentions not JUST breeding. and people say... "well his intentions were in the right place"... but not by the standards of SOME people. when you say BYB a lot of people say "whu?" and havent got a clue.
just like people didnt realise dog fighting was a sport and that it was so violent.. i say.. well what did you expect? but that isnt fair. i keep up with the bulldog world so i know more than i really care to admit about this garbage. but i believe if you're going to be against something then you should learn everything you can about it so you can state your case and get others to see just how bad it is...
thats why i dont like them showing the actual fight on tv... i said it already.. show the aftermath of the fight. just saying its BAD and you should agree with me! isnt good enough, showing the fight in progress isnt good enough. but showing the gore and death afterwards is going to make a lot of people snap to attention.
my step mom is NOT a bulldog fan at all. my whole life she would preach to me and my sisters about how dangerous they are, how they lock their jaws, how they attack and kill their owners and random dogs.... but you know what? she had one bad experience with a Boxer... her friend rescued him from the pound. why was he in the pound? because he was a biter... she was bitten while he was chained up too....
she's not as narrow minded as she once was, but it has taken 20 years for her to finally educate herself.... She's a collie person by default though. collies and small dogs. she had ONE pitbull mix that was rescued as a runt and bottle fed back to health. that dog helped bring her around... not advocates of the breed or the media.
my dad rescued a little chocolate pit bull pup once. after he was full grown he looked like an amazing well bred dog and smart to boot. one day my step mom saw an add in the paper missing a dog that looked a lot like this one - wasnt though just the same breed - and of course the first comment fromher was "i bet he was stolen for fighting purposes" ... old habbits die hard i guess.

what do you mean becoming? lol if they are becoming anything its more lenient towards them....
jailing paris was good... but she got out.. now there is suspicion that she got special treatment... what makes you think ole vickie pooh wont get the same special treatment?
it used to be that celebs were proud of being role models.... now i cant name ANY modern day celebrity i would want my sons to mimic.....

What are the penalties for dog fighting anyway?  Is it a Federal offense?  Usually theres a lot more going on than just the gambling.  I hope he gets was he deserves.

On talk radio a few weeks back the host admitted he never paid any attention to dog fighting until seeing film clips and was horrified on what he saw.  NOW he spent an hour talking about in on his radio show. That can only help.

This is exactly what I meant.  A lot of people still don't think dog fighting is a big deal because they're thinking of a couple of dogs getting into it over a bone. Anybody who has more than one dog has probably broken up a dog fight. They just don't realize the difference between that and dog fighting as a sport.

Thats why I think it is a good idea to show it.  TO show the aftermath and the blood and gore should maybe be shown also.... the whole story should be shown.  If its the only way to get people to stand up and be noticed then it will  more than worth it. What has been shown and talked about might be the start of getting to the bottom of this...maybe it will take a well known celebrity...God knows the sport (can we really call it a sport???) has been growing in leaps and bounds....something has to get it going the other way...maybe this will be it!

I believe it is a federal offense....but they got him for a lot more besides fighting...and one of the things that could get him will be transporting dogs out of state for fighting purposes.    They also have witnesses as to Vick killing 8 ( I think that was the number ) innocent dogs.... one by throwing it into the ground.   They got him for a ton of things....they just have to prove it and stick it to him. DH told me that his brother was thrown out of college, or off the football team over dog fighting also.   By everything I read,,,, he is guilty as can be...but it must be proven...and until then he is innocent.

Except a few posters have already stated that they didnt know the horribleness of this until the Michael Vick thing opened up and we see first hand.

Its the same way with Puppymills here in Missouri and other states... People are clueless!!! You mention the words Puppymill .. backyard breeder....and even if you educate them they still head to these places when they want a puppy...grrrrrrrrr

What I find upsetting about all of this is what kind of state of mind does a person have that enjoys watching this??? And being so cruel and mean???

Just like I can't understand serial killers or rapist and their minds... I find this just as sick and right in the same catagory that something has gone terribly wrong in there brains to be so cruel and to enjoy any of this.....

Im so infurated by all of this that there are no words to express... Well there are a few but we have to keep it clean here..[;)

Now call me sick put I would enjoy watching the pits turned loose on him. Now that would be pure enjoyment in my mind.....

AWE... finally some good news.... Nike pulled his contract.... No more indorsing there product....

Its about time someone stands up and takes action.... The NFL is all about MONEY.... and the sport... You won't see them doing anything....grrrrrrrrrrrr And I know its not there problem but making an example out of him would really be the right thing to do....

Okay IM done.... for tonight ...LOL who knows what I will still be mad about tomorrow on this subject...

excuse all my typo's and miss spellings.... fingers are flying and Im not previewing....

Dog fighting is a felony in most places (I am not sure about ALL places).

I refuse to pay any money for ANYTHING these idiots endorse, let alone any game they play. I only half-jokingly call our local bastketball team (the Trail Blazers) the JAIL Blazers because of the troubles many of them have been in.  DH defends the team; I won't watch them or have anything to do with the entire team's games until they show me that these men are people for my DSs to look up to.  As it stands, I would NEVER want my kids to idolize the so-called "men" on the professional teams I see out there.

I realize that no all team members are like this.  Unfortunately, it is a lot like the bull breeds--you don't hear the good things the team does, only the BAD.

Why? So they can lick him and roll on him? Dog aggression isn't human aggression. Sheesh
