The mother of octuplets

The more I hear about the situation, it sounds like it would be best if the kids were taken away. She's obviously not going to be able to take care of their needs.

I guess my sons spoiled me.  They never nursed more often than every 4 hours.  And they were both sleeping all night by two or three weeks old, so I got even more of a break there.

Yes, of course BFing is supply and demand, the more demand, the more we supply.  BUT, I'm not sure that any human being could ingest enough food to create TWO gallons of milk every 24 hours.  Yowser!  It takes time to put away that much food!

I have a friend who nursed her twins one on each side at the same time.  So, if this gal is coordinated AND someone else feeds HER while she feeds the babies, that would save a heck of a lot of time.  Poor Grandma.  Guess that'll fall to her too.  Feeding momma I mean.

With the federal mandate to keep biological families together, it's highly unlikely that these children will be put up for adoption, and even foster care isn't very likely.  Having been a foster parent, I've got a pretty good idea how the system works, and more likely the State would provide support services to enable momma to keep the kids with her. Which, of course, means more taxpayer dollars sucked down the drain.

I love children too. I would have liked to have had more than two.  But that couldn't happen, and what we did instead was to be very involved with children in sports, in scouting, and also by being foster parents.

My heart just aches for these babies....all fourteen of them.

    Even when conceived "naturally"

I saw an story on "natural" multiple births and the most were sextuplets and that woman actually had two sets of identical twins so only 4 eggs were ovulated.  The doctors said 8 has never happened and they believed impossible.  Only 4 eggs ovulated at one time has ever been recorded.

Ummm, how about the Dionne quints?  They were waaaay before any IV stuff was even possible!

The news article on the comcast home page indicated that the taxpayers of CA will most likely have to pick up the tab for this ... which irritates me no end.  On the other hand, what would it say about us as a society if we turned our backs on eight helpless newborns?  Even though it most likely won't happen, I think the best thing would be for each of these little ones to be adopted out to someone on the waiting list who won't be depending on an increase in food stamps to care for them.

They were natural, 5 IDENTICAL twin girls, there was 1 egg that split 5 times - they actually mentioned it because it was pretty amazing and I think that was a once ever.  They also said that the quints were taken from them and put in the cirrus or something like that. Sad

There's some in this ARTICLE on how generous the residents of California will need to be to take care of this woman's children, although they already have been up to now...

Well, it looks like she's got her website up:

I wouldn't be surprised if she gets lots of money from well meaning people and still stays on the dole from the taxpayer.  Well, people never cease to amaze me.  Go check out my thread on Artful bras, made by some very talented women in South Carolina to benefit breast cancer awareness.  I wish that cause would earn the money this crazy Mom will rake in from her web site.

Oh, I can chime in on this!  The Dionne quints were actually given up by the parents because they knew they couldn't afford them.  They stayed in some type of hospital until they were eight or so, at which point they went back to live with their parents.

Back to OP, woman is dillusional.  But that's already been established.  I wish the best for all 14 of her children, they are going to need all the best wishes they can get.  Love doesn't buy diapers or food and she sure seems to think it will.

I saw that on the news last night.  I decided not to send her a donation since as a CA taxpayer I'm already giving her plenty of help. Sad This will ultimately wind up being in the millions, I'm sure.

So, if she gets over $9,999 in donations, does she have to file with the IRS?

We did a legitimate fundraiser for a manager who works for us and has breast cancer.  We raised around $20,000 for her.  She does have to report any amount over $9999 as income.  Up to that point is a gift.

I would imagine she would have to claim it and I'd also think that if she gets enough donations, she'd be ineligible for the food stamps. She could still collect SSI for the children with disabilities.

Doesn't one of her older children have autism?  I was at a BD party last weekend and there was a boy there who I'd guess was 12 or 13. He has autism and probably because of the overload of stimulation, he was having a very difficult time and so were his parents. It's beyond my comprehension how anyone could manage 14 normal healthy children, but add in that some have health issues to deal with and it just makes my head spin.

    • Gold Top Dog

I think several of her children have medical or learning disorders or autism....I keep hearing different things on how much of each. But there are multiple problems. An autistic kid growing up in a family like that....jeez....

"He says not all of the calls are angry. One family from the Midwest has invited Suleman and her brood to live on their farm."

For some reason ... I found that line to be particularly eye catching.  I hope she considers the offer.  15 hands on a farm goes a long way. An honest days work and will keep 14 children out of trouble.

This whole situation is out of control and if it hadn't of happened, I don't know that I would have thought it possible!  If she does get a TV show or a book deal, I for one will not buy anything that supports her and her publicist.  God help those poor children...
