Do Your Dogs Always Wear Collars?

Just a curiosity question! Do your dogs always wear their collars, or do you take them off when inside the home?

My guys don't wear any collars in the house. They only are put on as we are leaving the house, and keep them on while we are out of the house. But in the house, they never have them on.

    Coke - always

Nikon - usually, unless I take it off for a show and forget to put it back on

Kenya - sometimes, but usually not

M&M always have their collars taken off when we are going out and leaving them at home.  They usually wear their collars in the house as we let them out different doors and I got fed up with hanging collars on every door!

    Twister, not in the house.

    Rex, not in the house.

Belle, yes usually as a way to snag her quickly if needed. lol

ETA: If we are leaving the house I put their collars on.  I am such a worrier and I think about what might happen in case of a fire and they were to escape.  This happened to a neighbor's dog and luckily I was home and was able to catch the dog.  It was terrified because of all the noise and commotion and big strange men in weird suits.  The dogs that are outdoors in the yard during the day wear break away collars.

he used to wear it 24/7 but now I take it off when he is in the house and we are going out.  In the mornings it stays on because he is in and out a lot

Now a days, Maze never wears a collar in the house. I'm just a worry wart incase Sandy ever got caught on it since she likes to hang off of Maze's neck. When we're going out, she wears a collar with her tags on it.

Sandy almost always has a collar on. In the beginning it was just so she got used to it. Now I just forget to take it off. Lol.

He wears a "tag collar" permanently, it's very narrow and black so you can't really see it, the sole purpose is to hold his tag.  If we're going out he wears either a 2" fabric martingale (if I'm walking him, and it comes off as soon as we walk back in the door) or a harness, which is DH's preference.

Always - complete with all the necessary ID tags.  I like having something to grab when he comes to the door with me and if I took it off I'd probably never remember where I laid it. It doesn't seem to bother him any having it on.

No...not most of the time. The show dogs necks get messed up...the older dogs, some of them chew them off each other LOL. Cleo usually wears a loose fitting rolled leather but sometimes not, she looks much better without. All my adults are chipped/have tats..so I do have some back up if they were to somehow go wandering.

    Most of the time, yes.

always yes, they are only taken off during bath time

Yes, unless they are not feeling well.  We recently had a bout of kennel cough, and the boys walked around nekkid for a while.  I didn't want the collar to be irritating.  After surgeries, they don't wear collars either....just a comfort thing.

I understand about the show dogs and their hair getting that collar dent.  I don't have that worry, but Rex and Belle got out of our yard, before we turned it into a fortress. LOL  Belle had her collar with tag dangling and Rex had nothing.  They are all three chipped, BTW.  A woman two streets down from us saw them running around. She got Belle and of course Rex hung around too.  She said she thought Rex was a stray because he didn't have a collar on. He wouldn't come up to her.  Rex and Belle are mixed breeds and they are less likely for someone to think "oh look a beautiful Beagle, lets see if we can find the owner".

Depends on the dog -- Billy and Kee?  never inside (both have neck problems, NEITHER is an obedience challenge)

Luna ALWAYS has a martingale one.  Tink almost always has a harness on (but I have to wash it every day b/c of the demodex) -- but to BOTH of them, it means "human in charge" and they both are far far more obedient with than without a collar/harness.

Mal and Kaylee do not when they are alone in the house. Rittie does, because if something DID happen and the door blew open and the fence fell down, she's the one that would be hardest for a stranger to catch- the other two would come to anyone who calls.

Lizzie, it's about 50/50. She isn't right now because I'm trying to grow coat. :P
