Jessica Simpson's Weight

Yikes - wouldn't you love to have this person as a friend? Hmm

I've always found her attractive. Clearly she is in a happy relationship and has put on some weight, I did the same thing. I still think she is attractive, however she makes bad choices in clothing. High waisted pants with a big, wide belt??? I am not a fan of high waisted pants - on anyone, but if you have to wear them you have to be super tall and really thin to pull it off. Otherwise they just make you look big all over. Sadly, women are scrutinized every day, but celebrities moreso - it's just part of the game. I feel bad for her. It's not the outside that truly matters anyway!!

What slays me is that she's around 140 lbs and a size 8 This is fat? This is plus-sized? Spare me! Her clothes in the photo were ugly and ill-fitting, but her body? I'll trade any day.

I think in Hollywood 140 pounds and size 8 is plus sized, in the normal world it's average. The thing about Jessica Simpson is that she didn't lose weight to get that size; we're used to seeing her a lot skinnier and she put on the pounds. And before she wasn't stick skinny- she was curvy and healthy looking.

     Good grief, who CARES?!

Weight weight weight... all I ever hear about is weight.  Is she talented?  Is she clever?  Is she funny?  Is she kind?  Is she a mother?  Is she a GOOD mother?  Does she donate money to charity and rescue baby birds that fall out of their nests?  Gosh, we don't care, all we want to know is: "is she thin?"  Gah!

Agreed - her clothes were ugly and ill-fitting.

I agree--the clothes are not doing her any favors.

However, I think her body looks great!  Nothing wrong with curvy as long as you are healthy.  The media focusing so heavily on body image is the reason we are seeing so many girls, at younger and younger ages, developing eating disorders.

    Ditto.

I've been shopping for a new bikini online for a spring trip and I am pleased with how many more NORMAL looking models I am seeing.  There was one model that was doing this pose on her back kind of up on her elbows and her pelvic bone stuck out so far it looked gross and distracting (especially since I just watched a program about Auschwitz survivors!) but on some other sites there have been normal sized models.

Granted she's at the top end of healthy as far as her BMI goes(24), her natural body shape is curvy.  I think if you have to work 3 hours a day in a gym and do the SB Diet just to maintain your weight, something is not right.  Its no wonder no one listens to her music, Poor thing's had no time, save recently while she's been sitting around apparently shoveling frosting into her mouth, to work on it.

I think its obsurd, what the media gets away with.  The school system is falling apart because no teacher has the right to reprimand a student anymore.  One of our teachers here got fined because he told a student that in order to pass his class he would have to pull up his socks.  The student turned around and told his parents that the teacher called him stupid and insulted his clothing...his best interpretation I guess.  And yet the media who has insane power over the minds of our youth teach them that it is alright to insult people constantly, and better to starve yourself, lest you be the next target.  I think its sad.

FWIW, it never makes me feel any better about myself when anyone else gets insulted.

Is that what she has to do on a regular basis? I think she did something like that for the Dukes of Hazard movie role where she had to be in extremely good shape, but not an everyday lifestyle thing. Although I don't know for sure. I agree that a person shouldn't have to go to those lengths to be thin.

..... even for a film, IMO.  Why does that character HAVE to be that skinny?  Oh yeah, cos the SIZE is essential to plot lines.... riiight.

It was part of that character. Some roles require actors to gain weight, some to lose, it's nothing to get upset about.

Yep, like Tom Hanks in Castaway.  He had to start out "normal" and then lose a lot of weight during filming.  Personally, I find it hard to garner a lot of sympathy for celebs having to gain/lose weight here or there to fulfill a multi-million dollar role.  I don't agree with the bashing of Jessica but I didn't expect anything more from the media.  That would be the last place I'd look for affirmation on weight!

    • Gold Top Dog

Sure, some roles require a certain size or body type.  Castaway is a good example where that is important to the storyline.  In most cases it's not though.  It's gratuitous and arbitrary - like, women "can't" be models if they aren't size 0.

The obsession with weight fascinates me almost as often as it irritates me.  I don't get it.  I don't care how much I weigh, or how much you weigh, or how much actors weigh.  Bathroom scales are the most stupid invention in the universe.  And diets are for losers! Wink

I wish I could have that view of things.  I don't by any means want to be rail thin, but I do want to lose weight still.  Part of it is vanity for sure, but being able to run around with my kids and my dogs means alot to me too, and I simply could not do that if I was still as big as I was.

    • Gold Top Dog

I care how much I weigh but not because of some washed up celebrity.
