Is there any way I can start the day over? Today has been so rough! First, I've been dealing with a bad bout of bronchitis and am currently on my 3rd antibiotic. The first one made my heart race in conjunction with Mucinex, the second just didn't do anything, and this one, well, lets just say projectile vomiting out of no where is not an option. Especially since I had just administered 11 units of insulin. So that's great. I can't seem to beat this crap and none of the antibiotics are working. Feeling like I'm breathing through water soaked cotton just takes the steam out of my sails and I have not gotten anything done the past 2 weeks. With this kind of side effect, I'm not taking this AB again. Which bites considering 10 pills was over $140. Thank God that my insurance brought it down to a manageable level though. That is NOT fun.
Then, I go to let Piper out of her crate for a potty break and see several dime sized smears of pus looking material. She had surgery Monday to remove two lumps and she's also in heat. She's been crated the past few days because she has popped 2 stitches even with her e-collar. Needless to say, when I saw the discharge on her blankets, I turned her around, and sure enough it looked like pus from her vagina. Even more wonderful! I have an hour to get me cleaned up from my earlier excursion and to get her to the vet before they close. Thank goodness for weekend office hours!
If she does have a uterine or bladder infection, it has been caught very early. All the doggy blankets got washed yesterday, and I always check their blankets in the morning to check for problems. I've always worried that I've been to watchful, but today I'm glad for it. Her swabs were full of bacteria, but her bladder was empty so no sterile draw was possible. Still don't know if we are dealing with a simple UTI or the scarier pyometra. She'll be under close(r) observation and we'll be back at the vet at the first sign of anything out of the ordinary. Hopefully the antibiotic we brought home will kill whatever it is.
I've got a killer headache and mile long list of things I need to do. But I'm crawling under the blankets. I just wish I could rewind today and start over. Okay, whine over.
