For Anne (spiritdogs) & Mike - Come on everyone.

Anne - I REALLY hope you don't mind - I just noticed your signature.  I am not sure what you have to "do" to be an organ donor, but I'm going to start the ball rolling in that direction today.

Come on everybody, in memory of Mike... who else is going to make "Be an organ donor" their New Year's Resolution for 2009?

Also, just out of interest.... Who is an organ donor already?  Stand up and be proud and others will follow your example Smile

I have been an organ donor for years, it plainly shows that on my driver's license, a little red heart. You get asked about that if you apply for a license in my state. Also, a young /20's family member lost a spouse and the spouse's organs, even cornias were donated.

Ditto.  My family also all know of my wishes.

I'm an organ donor and my family all know that.

Chuffy, you can put yourself on the list here and also, oddly, your Boots Advantage card (if you have one) can say whether you're a donor or not.

Chuffy, this is so nice of you to do.  If you go to my web page, http://www.pawsforpraise.com and go to the "contact us" section, there is a little blurb about this in the dedication part of the page.  If you click on Mike's picture, you will be taken directly to www.donatelife.net and the page that appears has info on how to become a donor in your state.

I am an organ donor and have made my loved ones aware of my choice.

    • Gold Top Dog

I'm an organ donor as well (have been for many years).  In Florida it's also on your driver's license if you wish, or in your wills/final documents.

I too am an organ donor and my living will specifies that long bones, muscle, skin, etc may also be taken.  When my sister Wanda died, because of the nature of her death, they couldn't use her organs, but they could use her eyes, long bones, muscle, etc.  So, whatever is left that is useable, someone else is welcome too.  I'm afraid everything has gotten some pretty rough use, but someone who NEEDS a used whatever, isn't going to care so long as it's healthy.

JUST having the designation on your DL isn't enough folks.  Unless your family knows of your wishes, in many states docs have to have the consent of the next of kin in order to harvest.  TELL someone close to you what your wishes are, and put it in writing as well.

Wow EVERYONE on here is an organ donor but me!  I don't know anyone personally who is one, must be even more of a problem here (UK).  Thanks for the link, Kate.

Is there ANYONE out there who is not an organ donor yet? Big Smile

    Donor since 2006.

I have been an organ donor for so many years I can't recall.  I also have a medical power of attorney that spells out my wishes for my DH or alternate to follow.

Same here.  I know that both NJ & PA have the option to put that fact on our driver's license.
