Spotted tongues?

    Spotted tongues?

My dog has a spotted tongue and she's the first dog I've had or seen that had such spots (she was originally listed as a lab/chow mix because of her tongue when she clearly has NO Chow in her mix).  I looked it up on the internet and found out its fairly common.

So who else has a dog with a spotted tongue?  Pictures are always appreciated!

    Here's my girl's spotted tongue.

My lab/shar pei has a spotted tongue. It's pretty obvious she has shar pei in her but people still assume there's chow in her when they see the tongue.

Labradors have stopped tongues too. I have seen pictures of AKC registered labs with spotted tongues.

The roof of Tuckers mouth was solid purple, with spots going down the back of his throat, but none on his tounge.

Lillie has a spot on the very back of her tongue but um I would have to grab it and stretch it out to get a picture. So Im gonna have to take a pass on that. You can see it when she is panting.

my full blooded male boxer has a few tiny spots on his tongue

Maybe the black spots are like molds ( or how ever you call them in english)?

That's the same with each of my dogs. Sophie has one spot way in the back, Cruiser has a few way in the back. Makes me even more curious about what breeds they are!!

Everyone tells me Sophie looks like she has Chow in her. I have to admit, I don't see it whatsoever.  I think Keeshond, which looks kinda sorta like a Chow...maybe...but I see more Keeshond than Chow for sure.

Spots are like a birth mark, not indicative of Chow.  Kenya is a purebred German Shepherd and has a black spot on her tongue.

Coke on the other hand has a solid purple tongue and the roof of his mouth is purple.

Mighty Mutt's tongue is spotted in front and goes solid purple toward the back. But he does have some Chow in him.

Pepper has lots of spots on her tongue and Tasha has a few towards the back.

Here you can just see a spot in the middle on the right side (as you're looking at her) of Pepper's tongue.

Tasha is the grey and black dog in my sig.

I don't have a picture of Selli's spot, but it is right at the tip of her tongue.  Golden people say its the "put treat here" spot.  They are prevalent in the  retrievers who are descended from Newfoundlands/St John Water Dogs, that is Newfs, Labs, Flat Coats, and Goldens.  Generally the puppies are not born with them, they tend to appear after the dog is a year old.

I do think if the tongue is mostly black or even more than 50% black, that is indicative of chow or sharpei heritage.

It scared me to death when I first noticed Heidi's when she was a puppy...LOL.  People were able to help me to realize its no biggie, like Liesje says...its a birthmark kind of thing.  In fact, the GSD experts told me its a sign of very good breeding.

I don't know what in the world she has on her tongue, looks like dirt...but her spots are way back.

Max has one spot on his tongue, but I'm pretty sure it's just a birthmark sort of thing.  I don't have a clue what might or might not be in his mix.
