    Should I be worried ??

On our morning walk today, Jamison snagged a dead squirrel off the street before I could even blink.  Anyway he carried it in his mouth all the way home and then kind of chewed on it before I was able to get it away from him.  Should I be worried?  He's up to date on all his shots and stuff.

Thanks for any info you may have.

I would think from past experience the worst you should have to deal with is upset tummy, gas and diarrhea.  No matter how careful I am my Pack has gotten into road kill, and abandoned kills when they have chased coyotes off.  We have yet to have a significant problem with them. You might call your vet and double check with them .  And maybe tell him no kisses for a while  Sickened   Just keep your hands clean and bathe him to be safe about any cross contaminates causing you discomfort.

Roundworm is the only other thing.  It takes about 4 months for that to show up if he ingested enough of the dead squirrel to contract them, and the squirrel had them.

Bear went through this last year - ate the dead squirrel in November, roundworm showed up in February.    The vet gave him a shot of worming meds (not ingestible stuff) and they cleared right up.

And I'm thinking **bacteria** -- depends on how long it's been out there and how fast stuff grows where you are living.  I had one dog get unbelievably sick from ingesting something he picked up that had been in the sun gathering bacteria all day.

Watch for any signs of him not feeling well -- lethargy, head down or facing into a corner, etc.

Thanks guys - I'll keep my eyes open for anything unusual.
