    Pudding smells

Ok I think next week my cousin and his family will be moving to their house and I will be able to bring Pudding in the house. Now my question is will I be able to take her a bath? I brought her in the house today and boy was her doggie smell strong! She smells more than Shailer and he spends all of his time outdoors. At her previous owner she was out during the day and inside at night. I brought her in because my cousin and his family went to walmart and I finally had the chance to bring her in. She is great inside but wants to eat the cat food and found the bird strange but other than that fine. Her smell though is what drives me crazy. She was spayed Wed. and she doesn't have regular stitches she has a blue string that disolves. Could I take her a bath? or should I go buy the wipes to wipe her off so that she doesn't smell too strong and just bathe her after two weeks? By the way she left my room kind of stinky, Shailer has not done that before!Indifferent

As far as the stitches and a bath, I would ask your vet's advice on that. I would check her ears to see if they're gunky or infected. Icky ears can be a STRONG smell that fills the entire room. Also, is it possible that she rolled in something gross outdoors, or is it a typical "doggy" smell? What food was her previous owner feeding her and what food are you feeding? I've noticed that the food a dog is eating can make a difference with how they smell.

I will call the vet tomorrow and ask about the stitches and a bath.

As for the ears I did check them and I didn't see anything maybe a little dirty but nothing strange. Its typical "doggy" smell but I was thinking that it might be her little jacket thing that her previous owner got for her, it was really doggy-stinky and I have already washed it so we will see. Her previous owner was feeding Purina puppy chow and I am feeding Purina One but I am in the process of switching Shailer's food to Diamond when I find the retailer. I have read many threads about how the food might have an effect on how the dog smells.

Also, my dogs always STINK after they've been through a surgery. I don't know what it is, but they reek. Teenie's bladder stones, spays and neuters, dentals, even Emma's dewclaw removal. Stunk for a week!

I wonder if it's related to the anesthesia? I don't know.

Maybe that has something to do with it. I will ask the vet tomorrow about that though I am going to petsmart tomorrow so I will buy wipes just in case I can't take her a bath.

Or maybe stress? Cherokee can get really smelly when she's stressed out. I imagine it's some kind of defense mechanism?

    NO BATH!!!

Use puppy wipes if you have to, sorry I didn't read this one sooner. The stiches used will dissolve if you get them wet (as in bath time wet) - wait 10-14 days before bathing.
