Mindless Chatter - Weekend

    Mindless Chatter - Weekend

I had an AWFUL night last night.  I was feeling "off" all day but didn't put 2+2 together and recognise the signs of an oncoming migraine...I am lucky I get aura but often it simply mimics tiredness, interspersed with boosts of manic energy, not always easy to tell that from a busy day.  During the evening I lay down on the couch for a nap and got woken up not long after, and interrupting a sleep cycle is baaad news for a migraine for me.  Pain started to come, DH went out to a late movie with a friend so I took myself to bed with a movie playing very quietly on the TV (distraction helps me distance from the pain).  I finally fell asleep at 1:30 and at 2 am, DH came home, saw the TV was on and channel surfed, then decided to turn the volume up.  Another sleep cycle interrupted, pain so bad I couldn't see.  I threw an absolute wobbly at him, then took a LOT of medication and finally fell asleep sometime before 5 am.  We made up this morning, both apologised...but oh boy was I unhappy at the time.

Still tired, still have the headache in the background.  On the bright side we picked out our carpet, finally, after waffling back and forth between several for days.

I am sorry you had such a bad night of sleep and a migraine to add to it!  I feel for you, my sleep has been horrible lately and last night was one of those nights.  Hubby has been camping all week and I slept like a dream, only getting up twice a night to go to the bathroom.  Of course last night he woke me up b/c I was snoring which seems to be a great symptom in the 3rd trimester and then I got up 4 more times during the night which made for a restless night of sleep.  I could totally lay down for a nap but need to start getting dressed soon.

On a good note, today is my baby shower!  I am so excited!

Boneyjean I hope you enjoy your babyshower, how exciting!! Big Smile

Today my cat Luke decided he wanted to have breakfast early. He even wake up Thor, messed with the blinds in the office, throwed things off the table... and all with those very deep, sad, awful meows. I really wanted to put him in his kennel but after I took Thor out for his pee and DH cleaned the litter box, I took Luke to the bed (Zarina was still asleep) and we had 2 more hours of sleep. At breakfast time he jumped over me and the cat food was spread all over the table Sad

    Somebody wants a black cat?

    I need a good night's sleep tonight.

Me too. Some friends of BF's and mine got married in the Keys yesterday, so we drove down on Wednesday, but had to drive back last night after the wedding - BF had EMT refresher school at 8AM. We got back around midnight last night, but I didn't make it to bed until 2AM.

Yesterday BF and I were just hanging around down there. We had to check out of our room at 11, but the wedding was at 4, so we went to our friend's hotel and walked around and we saw an OCTOPUS in the bay, right by the rocks. It was really, really neat to see one in the wild. We walked a little farther and saw a stingray looking for his lunch, that was neat too. There were some big fat lobsters in the rocks by the docks, but BF didn't have a net or anything, darn.

Have fun at your shower, Boneyjean!

Kate, I also hope your head is better soon.

I am on my way to a baby shower for one of my nieces. I stopped by the office to pick up my camera which I had left up here and decided to check in and of course had to post to a few threads.  So addictive this i dog!!  I was really hoping that Glenda had our Secret Santa assignments.  I keep seeing all these things I want to get but need to wait for my person to be assigned.

It is very windy today and two of my huge plumeria blew over this morning but no damge done.  They have to go in the garage tonight because we are due for our first freeze. (Hot chocolate tonight!) I have become a plumeria junkie, the only thing that slows me down is the fact that they can't winter outside and moving them is quite a job.

Hope everyone has a restful and fun weekend.

I love them too! We took a cutting from a really pretty one in the Keys that was growing on the side of the road, LOL. Ours live in the ground, but it only freezes maybe once down here since we are so close to the water. On really cold nights we cover them up in blankets, though.

I think that I may have them be my wedding flower, if I ever get married. I've seen some really pretty bouquets and whatnot, made of them.

Blech, since I wasn't home for Wed-Thurs-Fri I have to do all those day's chores today. So far I've started laundry and done the bird cage. I need to vacuum and do the hard floors, and scrub down the kitchen and downstairs bathroom.

I was supposed to go to a sheepherding clinic today but I really didn't feel up to it. So instead I'm gonna take Maze out and work on her leash walking and weaves since I've kinda neglected them for housetraining Sandy.. *sigh* Bad mom. But Sandy's pretty much reliable now. She had one accident last night cuz we were all watching a movie and not paying attention to the little white dog. Lol.  I also have to change her food..Maze's food is giving her BAD gas.. Like so bad she cleared the living room the other night.. I'm thinking about putting her on Healthwise. Maze did good on that until we figured out her allergies. From what I can tell, Sandy doesn't have any *crosses fingers*

And we have a minor flea problem so Sandy will be staying home tomorrow instead of going to class.  I don't want to spread fleas when it can be avoided.

I'm going out today to a nice chinese place. They're hiring for a hostess kinda thing. I can do that! Lol. And they want part time which I need so here goes nothing! Lol.

I WISH IT WOULD JUST SNOW ALREADY!!! That is all...

They have this stuff called "cloud cover" (comes in spray cans) at a lot of nurseries.  Supposedly you can just spray it on the plants and it provides a protective cover so they don't freeze.  I've never tried it myself, but I'm going to pick up a couple of cans for my two pathetic little bouganvillas.  They're in 1/2 whiskey barrels, so moving them is out of the question. Periodically in Dec. and/or Jan. we'll get a freeze that lasts about 10 days or so.  It doesn't go as low as a lot of places, but it's hell-o on any kind of tropical plants.

Based on today's weather, it's hard to believe it's fall here. It's sunny and mid 70s. I seriously love it like this and wish it'd last forever. I'd also love to have a few Plumeria plants myself but I'm not good a remembering to cover or move stuff, so they probably wouldn't survive. My bouganvilla has managed to bounce back from a couple of hard frosts, but I think it might be more resilient. My Hibiscus plants almost never come back in spring.

I go to baby showers with DW. Her dept deals in baby stuff so she knows who is having a shower. Anyway, the women are sometimes amazed that I don't mind going to a baby shower. And why not? It's a quiet party where everyone is happy and there's food. What's not to like? Plus, I'm handy because I can lift heavy things, the one true value of a man. One time, someone handed me a video cam to catch it on video. So, I was useful, again.

Today was a nice, chilly day and I went with my old workmate friend, RC, to get our continuing ed done for our state licenses. Coffee and danishes in the morning. Giveaways from the sponsors. I've got the newest Underwriter's Laboratory list on cd and in book. Saw a way cool panel retrofit kit from Eaton. With it, you can upgrade your house electrical panel without removing the original enclosure. You remove the old interior pieces and put in the retrofit and it comes with it's own door assembly with a wide flange. Pretty neat. Talked with the wire salesman from Encore Wire who handles our account and got a leg up on what my boss is bidding on, because the Encore guy is bidding the wire for them. I won a Kit Kat bar on the name drawing. Got a nifty little sliding card calculator for buck booster transformers. Catered lunch (buffet style, knock yourself out) in the hotel dining room at noon.

The compliance guy from TDLR was there to give us the low down and what is required. And they are planning another sweep in north Texas. That means, mind you p's and q's. Which is not a concern to me. I'm out of the business of doing side jobs and mastering for other companies who don't have a clue. I work at the company I worked for before and this company is floating in masters. The owner is the attached master. And there's four of us other guys who are masters, including me. And it doesn't mean a thing when it comes to hiring and that's a relief, believe it or not. That big, fat license was a target on my back for a while.

Ron, I know nothing about what you do, yet when you post about it, it always sounds so interesting. Even thou I'm lost.. Lol. Big Smile

Why do I even bother!? Seriously! I brought a pile of books to the local used bookstore and they wouldn't buy them.. She had to many of them. *sigh* So Alex had to return some empties so I can make dinner tonight.. 4 days until Welfare Day.. I hate it!! Here's hoping I get a call back soon...

I'm thinking about downsizing my library so I'm gonna be getting rid of a bunch of books. I've got Sci Fi out the @$$ that I don't read, a bunch of pet books I'm never gonna use so they're just taking up space.

    And my tummy hurts.. *sniffle*

Ron, I know nothing about what you do,

You're right, I should probably preface that a little better. As an electrician with a license given by the state of Texas, we have to complete so many hours of continuing ed per year to keep renewing our licenses. The sponsors are manufacturers of equipment and supplies that we use in our jobs. For example, my company is currently working on a huge, monstrous school. The main building has two main switchgear assemblies. One is 5 sections and the other is three sections, each section about 3 feet wide by 7.5 feet tall and bolted together, sitting on a concrete pad above the floor about four inches. Each gear assembly carries 4,000 amps of current. The incoming voltage from the power company transformers is 480 volt 3-phase. It serves all the electrical needs of the building, which is about 500,000 square feet, plus the site lighting, including parking lot pole lights, signage, outside building lighting. Anything that needs electricity. Also, at this school, there is a separate multi-use building which includes an indoor 50-yard practice football field. Talk about snazzy. Outside football stadium with pressbox. Running track, baseball field, olympic size swimming pool,  8 tennis courts. The occupancy capacity of just the main building is greater than the town's current population. But the town is expanding like crazy. People around here will know what I mean when I say it's the next Frisco.

Anyway, so I get to meet with the people that provide us with the things we use to do our jobs and we get the skinny on the NEC (national electrical code) changes. I like going to this shindig because it is a bunch of electrical inspectors, who's judgement affects my work, directly. I like to know what they're thinking so that I can be prepared. I have a near spotless record of green tags because I work with inspectors, rather than against them.

I could go into more detail but I would bore many people to tears.

I'd be likely to electrocute myself

I have, several times. 120 V (like you have in a plug in the wall) only feels like a muscle twitch to me. But 277 V (commercial lighting), that hurts and gets my attention. 480 V single or three phase will knock you across a room. Anything more and we just send flowers to your widow or widower. Nowadays, we do fancy things like turn the circuit off, first. The company I work for had a fatality some years ago. A little step down transformer (277 V to 12 V) and the guy was working with it hot but he had never been trained to work hot. He got bit and it killed him. So, the company has a policy of no energized work.

Back in the 90's, at another company, we were pulling wire for mezanine heater runs into an energized 480 V switchgear. I was feeding #8 awg wire and this guy, Tim, was pulling with a metal fish tape. No one was watching him or the fish tape. The gear was bottom fed, which means the main lugs were on the bottom. The fish tape kinked around and grounded one of the lugs. Tim was not shocked but the arc flash alone rose up, burned the interiors to the point of uselessness and burned Tim 1st and 2nd degree on his face and hands. His outer layer of skin was falling off as they took him to the hospital. Well, we continued pulling the wire. I kept feeding until the wire wouldn't feed anymore. I went around the corner and asked the boss if they were done. He said, "No, we're finished. Tim's done." Tim had to spend a week off of work but he came back with pink new skin, no scars that I could see. I said, "Tim, you blew your face off, grew another one, and you're still ugly." "I know," he said. Laughing eased the stress and you've got to get back on the horse that threw you, so to speak.

    Thems' the "good ole days."
