Oh dear lord....what have I gotten myself into?! I have taken on 2 8(ish) week old kittens. Lord - am I crazy? Answer - YES! But, here they are!!

I;m going to have a million questions.....I've never had indoor cats before.....LIKE:

    Whats the best food?
    Cat litter?
When do I get they're shots?

    AND . . . . MOST IMPORTANTLY......

Which ones a boy and which ones a girl?!
I THINK they gray one is a girl and the orange one a boy. I'm not sure....

    Here's the pics thou!!!

I think I'm going to call them Isabell and Oliver. But I'm not sure - input would be great! Please?

For me cats are much harder to take care of than dogs, especially if they ever get sick.

I made 3 big mistakes with my cats when we first got them.

First mistake is getting more than one cat of the same gender. We had 3 male cats that begun to hate each other soon after they hit puberty.  They plotted against each other behind my back and one day after years of having 3 cats I ended up with only one, Boris.  My guess is Boris came out victorious after a fight, driving other 2 away from the house. We still don't know what happened to our poor cats, I hope that somebody took them in and never let them outside again.

Second mistake was letting them outside at night. If I ever wanted to get a cat in the future I would NEVER EVER let it outside again, maybe only if it was on a leash.  So many horrible things happened that it's just not worth it. Not to mention all the tapeworms and fleas.

And third mistake is feeding dry food.  Buy the best canned food that you can afford for your cats because if they ever get sick you are going to regret it big time!  They are very hard to try and medicate.  I'm now suffering with a cat that has multiple urinary problems and needs around the clock medication plus my house is covered in cat urine!

Canned is pricey - but I'll try. If not, I can soak the dry kibbles in warm water for a little bit....right?

    Any ideas for names?

And the best type of cat litter?

I *think* you can, check with a cat owner about that, but it's not the same thing.  Dry has grain in it, and cats do better when they're on a 100% meat diet.

Peaches, my orange tabby girl, eats grain-free canned in the am and pm, with some dry grain-free for the day. I feed a Canadian food called "Go" and its pretty expensive. $16 for a 3 lb. bag of dry and a $1.50 a can, this works for her and her skin issues. Blue Buffalo makes a good canned and dry. For litter I use Tidy Cats Antibacterial. Peaches is strictly indoors. Too many unknowns outside

I think a visit to the vet will help you a lot!!

I would recommend to spay/neuter both, feed them with a schedule, don't let them go out and love them a lot, they are very cute!

    Cute Kittens!

Please keep your kittens indoor! My Kiddles was suppose to be strictly indoor but thanks to my dear uncle she became outdoor/indoor. She became a master at escaping thru the door even if you were looking. I could keep her in the house for a whole week without letting her out and as soon as she got the chance when I was not around or looking she would be gone. I hate it when she gets out and I try my best to put her in the house but she knows my intentions and when she wants to be out she will stay out until she wants too. Nico was also suppose to be an indoor cat but my friend started to let him out when she had him and now its also impossible to keep him indoor the good thing is that he will stay around the yard and will not travel the whole neighborhood unlike Ms. Kiddles over there that will stay out until the day is over. I am thinking of making a cat enclosure and keeping them outside in it when ever they want too. I could do the opening from the house to their enclosure thru my sisters windown in the room.

As for litter I use Fresh Step its the only one that has worked best for me. Don't use clumping litter though because the kittens will try to eat and it will clump in their stomachs.

As for food feed either can or raw. I am in the process of feeding a can/raw diet but I have to find out more info on that.

Please groom your cat! Kiddles is the hardest cat too groom she will bite me and scratch me if I have to brush her. I only use the Furminator on her to remove the hair and I have to muzzle her and groom her in the bathroom because she gets really angry. Just teach the kittens that they will not get hurt when you groom them that also includes playing with their mouths, ears, feet, nails, and tails.

Most of all love them! Smile

As soon as they have all they're shot's and put on some weight - they are both getting fixed. My Mom and Dad are on board for that.

    They had dinner at 5-ish.

I loooooooove them! I never thought I was a cat person - but I kinda am. They each have they're own little personalities! Oliver(orange boy) is a powerhouse! He's bossy, and a real tough guy. He plays more, and plays harder. But he's also a real love-bug! Isabelle(gray girl) is shy, and quite. She likes to play by herself - but enjoys a random pounce on my foot! Adorable. I love them already. They have free-reign of my room and have decided that they pile of pillows that are on my floor(I'm a pillow hog - I have 8 with only 3 or 4 on my bed) is THERE'S!! Hehe....I catch them napping on them. It's so cute!

    Please keep your kittens indoor!

Dad wants my tom cat outside(Oliver) and inside. I said no!
He said Isabelle could stay inside 24/7 but Oliver could go out.
I was like NOOOOOO! Both of them stay inside! Period!

I've got Arm and Hammer Esentials - it's natural, and biodegradable. It smells woody and fresh too! I like it so far.

Friskies canned food - I bought 4 flavors, and like 8 cans - the big cans(13.5oz)
    and
Maxximum Kitten Food.....it's dry *sigh* Mom isisted on it. Does any one know much about it?

They've already stole everyone in my house(except my brother)'s hearts!

Aww, I love orange kitties, but I don't envy you right now...kitten-hood with Charlie (one of mine) was HELL! lol He was, by far, the sneakiest little booger ever.

I have three male cats. Right now, they're eating Solid Gold dry food. I can't remember the variety, but I never get anything fish based because it just really stinks coming out. I also feed them Wellness and Avoderm canned food. Charlie is very picky, and these are two of the brands he'll eat consistantly.

As far as litter goes, I like World's Best. It's corn-based and doesn't really track around the house. It also contains odors well, although you have to get used to the corn smell first. I bought a bag of Swheat Scoop because it's cheaper, but I haven't tried it yet.

     Good luck with the kittens!

    Aw -  what cuties!

You'll want to get them to a vet soon - kittens are very prone to internal parasites. They, like puppies, need to be dewormed every 2 weeks. Also check for coccidia - if left untreated, it's deadly.

I have 5 cats, three boys and two females. Everyone gets along fine, and each has their own personality....

My cats are strictly indoors - and I strongly advise you to keep yours inside at all times. There are way too many dangers out there for cats, esp. kittens. Even though they do not go outside, they all wear collars 24/7 and are microchipped.

My cats eat Purina One dry, and get Fancy Feist canned every now and then. My oldest girl has allergies, so I cannot switch their food. I tried feeding Blue Buffalo Sensitive Skin, but the old lady didn't like it. Huh? Canned food is better - cats don't really drink enough water on their own - leading to urinary problems and such.

We use Fresh Step litter - clumping. I do not like clay litter, there is way too much dust - and I have horrible allergies..... there's no smell. We have 4 little boxes in the house, I would reccomend two for you - to cut down on the smells.

Get your kitties a scratching post - that way they will leave your furniture alone. If you are going to declaw - do it young. Declawing at a later age causes problems. Two of my guys are declawed, the other aren't - and there are no problems with anything. The old lady came to me declawed, and my feral rescue had to be (he was a pretty nasty kitty when I got him) - I wouldn't declaw again unless I really had to.

I need to find a more cost-friendly vet.
