    Cats are expensive....

What happened to a bowl being $2...? I've seen itty bitty cat bowls for $8. Wow.

Basicly, I'm getting a kitten tonight......thanks for the heads up right? I might get 2 and find a new home for the other one.....just to be sure. Ya know?

What do I need to get? Whats a good food? Toys? Litter? Litter box?

    HELP!!!

Have you confirmed your dogs are good with cats?  I only ask because I wouldn't dare bring a cat into this house with Ben, who hates them.  Less of a concern if they grow up together but I'd definitely check that your dogs are cat-safe first since they're adults.

Sam's not. I think Taz will be fine. Sam's an outdoor dog, and when he's inside it's only into the kitchen(by the back door), and he stays calm and minds well. Taz just wants to play with anything that moves - Sam wants to kill them.

Make sure the cat has a safe dog free zone to hide out in. Maze grew up with Kameo but I still blocked off the dining room and made it completely dog free to give Kameo a place to escape. He's got scratching posts there, food, water ect..

Also when Sam is in the house, keep a drag line on him so it's easier to redirect him when he's focused on the cat.

    Your getting a kitten?

As you know Shailer is an outdoor dog too and he minds Kiddles and Nico. He is super friendly with all types of creatures (except horses haven't tried that yet) and he is super nice. When Kiddles was in the house she didn't like Shailer at all but I made sure that Kiddles became the "alpha" between him and her. I would hold her and put her on his head and back and I made sure he sniffed her really well. Ofcourse Shailer doesn't have a strong prey drive so he was always extemely mellow around her and she was only 4-5 weeks old. Now they respect each others boundaries and Shailer can come up to her and sniff her and she doesn't mind. She however does mind the few foster dogs that I have had. The girls use to try to chase her until she stood her ground and scared them running to me, what a sight it was. So do be careful when introducing the new kittens to the dogs, I always make sure that the cats become the "alpha" between them but I am the "alpha" over them.

    Whats a good food?

I strongly suggest canned food.  Start your kitten out right.  We have 3 cats and because of health problems have taken a crash course in feline nutrition.  We are currently feeding raw.  Cats can live on dry food but after 10-12 years will most likely present severe problems.  They are net meant to eat a dry kibble.  They must get the moisture they need from the food they eat.  The are obligate carnivores meaning they have no business eating grains.  Meat meat and more meat.  A mouse is the perfect little bundle of cat food.  Of course, that's not practical.

I recommend Wellness brand.  Try to get the variety with a very simple ingredient list.  We use Chicken and/or Turkey for one of the cats.  Sam isn't so excited about the raw.

    I have 2 kitties now.

    Wow.

    Ok.

Sam only goes as far as the kitchen, and the kittens are going to stay in my room for a few days. My room is off lemits to Taz now. I'm going to the store in the morning so I'll pick up stuff then - litter box, litter, 2 bowls, and food!

    Whats the best litter?

Something dust free and clumping.. Don't worry about those fresh scent stuff cuz they can turn a cat off of using the litter box.

I LOVE the World's Best Cat Litter - it's clumping but corn based so it doesn't smell awful and it has way less dust.

Pi's currently eating Blue Wilderness dry but I'm thinking about switching him to Prairie Instinct since someone I talked to said their cat did really well on it and his tummy still isn't thrilled with the Blue.  My vet said it was really up to me whether I fed dry or canned, he just can't eat raw because of his FIV.

I've heard of some cats having stone issues while on Wellness canned btw.

As for bowls, I just went to walmart and bought some small bowls from the human dinnerware aisle - 2 for about $6 and I know they didn't come from China and they're human-safe so no lead to worry about.

Yeah I forgot to mention the part about only wet food is great for cats. I am currently feeding one can a day for two cats because Nico is a pig and will eat his food and Kiddles. I have really great information that explains that better, if you are interested let me know and I will send you the link.

I got them 2 double bowls for like $1. A small litter box(for now - they're getting a bigger one about Christmas). Scoop.

Arm and Hammer Esentials. It's a natural, biodegradable product. I smells fresh - not like cat litter, has a woody sent. The kittens have already used it 2 or 3 times.

Friskies canned cat food. I looked for wet kitten food - none.

Maxximum kitten food - I got a 4 or 5 lb. bag......does anyone know anything about it? My Mom HAD to get them dry food. *sigh* So I'm mixing it with the wet. About a 50/50 mix of the 2.

And - toys! Woo! They love the them, I just bought a pack of 10 or so toys - the kind with the bell inside a ball.
